How close are ireland and britain? 99% speak english, 800 years part of british empire, cultural very closer. Much closer than ukranians and russians. But ireland is not Britain. Nationality is identity.

Except ukranisn is closer to polish and slovak. But don't let facts trouble your little head.

They already voted to be independent in 91. Shame he doesn't respect their sovereign decision.
5
Is this the 21. Century or the 18? Get a life.

Ukranian is russian, like English is French. Ukranian is actually closer to Polish.
3
Donbas was majority ukranian until this war. It always had been. So was bilgorod and kursk. Until stalins deportations.
3
Istanbul was established by Greeks, London by the Romans, Toronto by the British, New York by the Dutch. What's your point?
3
We don't censor key historical documents and suppress academia. So.listen. you might actually learn something.

All countries are artificial constructs. They exist in the imagination. Russians imagine a historical constancy which never existed, they imagine an ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic uniqueness which does not exist. They do not know what they are, of where their country begins and ends, so they base their identity on historical myths, antifascist, victims of external hostile forces etc.
2
It can be based on many things; traditions, ethnicity, language, whatever makes groups see themselves as having enough in common to imagine themselves as a nation. Russia never had this. It was crested by a ruler. Hence the difficulty Russians have separating the nation and the ruler.
2
It's not a game. Ukraine has huge potential support.
2
Nationality is imagined. In every nation. Ukranians have the same right to imagine their common identity as anyone else.
2
People have the fundamental right to self-identify as they choose. It is not for tyrants to tell them who they are.
2
Proples ideologies are genetically passed on. Interesting. Do they teach you that at school?
2
Good to see the utter lack of selfcriticism is still going strong.
2
Russet in English. Reddy brown.

The US gave Britain, the USSR and China lendlease when they were all getting hammered. And it was a lot of lendlease. Ukraine gets peanuts. 5% of defense spending to be precise.

@aleksandrs1422 ukraine is product of 19. Century nationalism, as is germany, Italy, Greece etc. The difference is that statehood was delayed by the Poles and Russians crushing the new state in 1921.
1
@thebenevolentsun6575 Ukranian has a 68% cross-over with Polish, 60% with Russian, Slovak 72%, Belorussian 80%. Funny old world innit?
1
Due to Ukraine's greater contact with west Slavic peoples. We are all a product of our historical coming togethers. My language, English, is closest to French although it is officially a Germanic language. Ukranian is actually closer to Belorussian and Slovak than either Russian or Polish.
1
@thebenevolentsun6575 English is officially Germanic, its closest language is French.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the English and Irish are both majority iron age Gallic regarding their DNA. The Romans were confronted by "Celtic" tribes such as the Belgae when they invaded. Later invasions did not radically affect the genetic pool. The English are 65% Gallic, the Welsh and Scots 75%. As to Celtic culture, visit Stonehenge some day. Lots of Celtic burial mounds all over Europe. Christianity, a Judo-Roman cultural phnonoma reached England around 600 AD, from Ireland. I didn't actually use the word England in my original post, so you answered what you wanted to read, not what I actually said.

This war is the result of russias struggle with its own identity. Ukraine knows what it is.
1
Some regimes need them to legitimise their dictatorial nature.
1
It was pronounced Rooss, and rissia was otiginally called Rassiym, then Rassia. It looks more similar in english.
1
Ruse is in Bulgaria.
1
Russia needs to confront its own history, honestly. Then it would understand why every country in its vicinity can't join NATO fast enough.
1
The Ukranian historisn said that.
1
They're not very brotherly toward each other at the moment.
1
More like Americas 1812 war.
1
@greasher926 Rus ceased to exist before Moscow was founded. It was conquered by the Mongels in 1140, only Galicia survived into the thirteenth century.
1
In the hands of those who distort and emotionally weaponize, it can be literally genocidal.

@AlexthunderGnum The Vikings were known for having this hair colour, which is still common in northwest Europe.
