  1. Russia is conducting a war of aggression on its neighbour. Support for Russia is, therefore, regarded as fundamentally different to providing weapons to Ukraine to defend itself against invasion.

  3.  @sundfornuft9449  Russia regards Ukraine as part of its sphere of influence. The concept of spheres of influence is rejected in the UN Charter, which stresses national sovereignty. This is Russia's main objection to the international world order. It envisages a world where great powers dominate the countries around them.

  4. Russia has the right to ally with who it likes, and join whichever international organisations it wants to, as does Ukraine of course. They are both sovereign states.

  10.  @mengreat6982  The UN Charter was agreed at the Potsdam conference in 1945 by the USSR, USA and UK. It was later ratified by the full UN.

  12.  @valcarlin2537  the rules were written at Potsdam by the US, USSR, UK together. The rules state that you can't change national borders by military force. Borders are sovereign. Its simple really.
