@marisabenson1222 not generations, 800 years. They were established as a Haanate after the Mongol invasion of the region in the twelth century. The Horseriding tribes which had settled there from Asia 4,5000 years ago brought us our Indo-European languages. Their descendents were the Scythians, who synthesised with Greek civilisation to give us what we understand as western civilisation. Cherokenesos, near Sevastopol, was a Greek city. A Swedish coloniser, Valdomar, converted to Christianity there. This is modern Russia's historical claim to Crimea. They want this legacy to have a worlf-historical role, rather thsn being a collection of tribes which were sold as slaves unyol they were assimilated into a loose Viking state based around Kyiv, founded in 540ish.
