It's forgivable for Russians to believe it because Russian propaganda is unchallenged there, but Farage does have access to the facts, and he knows that no foreign minister of a western government can unilaterally make such an assurance for future administrations, even if they had said it. What we do know is that the communique released after the meeting in question affirmed the right of sovereign nations to join organisations of their choosing. btw Gorbachev said in 2015 that the matter was never discussed.

  8. It did, but we have rejected imperialism. We don't dream of how to get an empire back. We recognise all our former colonies as "real" countries with sovereign rights. We literally wouldn't dream of invading Ireland, for example.

  12. Putin hates NATO because he can't attack and control the countries in it. That's why they apply to be in it. If he were a good neighbor, Finland and Sweden would not have joined. It's his fault, that countries feel threatened by him. Stop blaming the organisation which guarentees the security of small nations bordering an expansionist Russia.
