  2. He is a nostalgic socialist, and instinctively anti-american although the US guarentees his country's security militarily. He, like many of his kind, doesn't want to accept that Putin is nothing like a socialist.

  8.  @jmolofsson  his party worships Brandt, and Brandt sought normal relations with the USSR, and saw Germany as morally in debt to it. He hasn't moved beyond that, alas, because Putin has little in common with the old communists of that age, and Russia and the USSR are not the same animal.

  13.  @moffig1  I can only think it has to do with the hannover-Moscow connection. The SPD has got itself far to close to Russia, and who knows what has been agreed and exchanged. It makes no sense. Putin is an avowed enemy of Europe, and he is literally attacking it.
