  5. Thd only criticism allowed in Russia is from jingoistic nationalists, because they basically back the Putin narrative, and make Putin look measured and rational by comparison. Liberal voices have been crushed.

  6. What this guy doesn't tell us is that the Russian state justifies its war in an entirely different way inside Russia. There's little talk of NATO expansion there, rather an existential battle between decadent evil western civilisation and Russia, inheritor of ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, saving true European civilisation from satanists. Its weird.
