I think you will find that the ukranisn security forces effectively ended the insurrection, but the russian army then entered ukraine, leading to the Minsk agreements. You will also find that there was low popular support for becoming part of Russia, in fact 3.4% of the population of Eastern ukraine favored this option. But dont let facts stop you. If you would respect the right of Ukranians to their own independent country, this war would never have happened. Your colonial attitude is the reason for this war. Finally learn to take responsibility for your actions and the underdeveloped condition of your country. Instead of blaming others all the time, easier as it might be for you psychologically, you really need to focus on your internal issues. The answer to your economic backwardness is to be found there.

Militarised patriotism, the alternative to engendering prosperity, which would have required political freedoms. The mystery is why so many Russians find war more preferable to living comfortably.
