@Mark-Haddow Strange; the last time I visited Scotland, they described the Union as an occupation.

@missteemc4039 They gained Scotland. They invaded it, and got rid of the Picts, the original Scots.

I don't think anyone down here is claiming your land. Nor do we seek to hold you in this union against your will. It is you who decided your fate in 1707, 1973, and 2014.

It's not part of England. It voted to be part of the UK.
2
And that the western allies had destroyed the Luftwaffe, giving the Red Army air superiority in the east.
2
@dr.finnegan3949 they were mutually supporting operstions, as were Citadel and Kursk, and Alemain and Uranus. The allies co-ordinated major operations for obvious reasons.
2
Supply. Stirling Cadtle guarded the only route into the intetior, and this gave any English army 2 weeks to break through there, after marching from the border. All the Scots had to do was to defend the bridge, and otherwise refuse battle, wait for the English army to go home, and recapture any lost territory.

30% of their combat strength was in the west, against a foe whose doctrine focused on air power, with no airforce. Fortunately for them, the alllies had supply issues, and needed Antwerp to push on.
2
Crecy was a defensive battle. The advantage lay with the defender in.medieval warfare; Cohesion was a major issue. Usually, the side that attacked lost. Towton is a good example.
2
@Mark-Haddow Didn't Henry VIII's wife kill the Scots king with the B team while Henry was fighting the French?
2
@Mark-Haddow I don't think Scotland played a major role there. The Scots question was settled in 1328 I believe. The 100 years war didn't begin until 1337. The Plantagenot Dynasty had bigger fish to fry.
2
@ranica47 I thought the Irish invaded Scotland and subdued the native Picts.
2
@donaldfarquar you had a free vote. What's your problem?
1
@GingerGully The Scots were immigrants. They replaced the Picts. Actually they were invaders.
1
@andrewthornton8315 and robert the bruce (de bruie) was a norman, like the english nobles were.
1
@Rildar Irish Scots invaded Scotland. The Scots are not indigeneous to Scotland.
1
@pinball7113 the elderly also have the right to pursue their interests.
1
@RirirYehe we actually know that. We also know that robert de bruie was a norman knight, like the english aristocracy, and used his plebs like they did for his dynastic ambitions.
1
@KelticTim the scottish aristocracy wanted a single market. To sell oats tariff free in England etc.
1
Robert de Bruyes, Norman knight, descendent of the Conquest, at your service.
1
Correct use of combined arms. The threat of cavalry attack forced the Scots into a Schiltron formation making them an easy packed target for the bowmen. Same as in Napoleonic warfare.
1
@TheRookery-xm4om they sent 7 panzer divisions to defend the front, but they weren't there till July.
1
They held for too long in truth. Falaise was a disaster. The real miracle was that the war didn't end in 1944.
1
@Tangerine10. They didn't need dividing. Clan warfare was endemic.
1
@charmainelamont2020 The Scottish aristocracy chose the Union for a single market with the rest of Britain. An eminently sensible idea, speaking as a pro-EU Englishman.
