  1. It wouldn't have been possible. At Marathon the Athens and Plataea had 10,000, the Persians had 25,000 plus 1,000 cavalry. They could not have found enough water for 100,000 people in Greece in summer.

  2. Sparta could put maximum 60,000 in the field, of which 9,000 were Spartiates during this period. It sent 35,000 to Plataea.
