@charliehayward2512 You're right. This is like watching the fall of the Weimar Republic and the rise of Adolf. We never learn.

What worries me about the Black Sea "ceasefire" is that it may allow russian naval ships to patrol areas they currently dare not patrol, and harass commercial shipping traveling to/from Ukrainian ports. I also wonder if it would allow the passage of russian warships through the Bosphorus.

@TheOracleOfYouTube We're sending yours too. To defend democracy.

@natamadic Very true.

My daughter is booked to do Camp America from May. I wish she wasn't - but I can't order a 20yo not to go. I'm trying to educate her about the risks, and about ensuring she has an escape plan, should things turn to custard in the States.

@TheOracleOfYouTube Some people want to help others in trouble. Some people are selfish. From your repeated posts I see you are the latter.

Where I am it is summer, and snow is not common - maybe one year in ten we get a winters day where there is snow on the ground in the morning. Gone by noon. So it looks delightful to see you walking in the snow. I have spent the day in my workshop to avoid the sun - I get sunburnt too easily. Stay safe Anna. Slava Ukraini.

What FSB doing?

I like that the world laughs at Putin's threats. Slava Ukraini.

@nemo1877 I can't speak for the OP, but I didn't support Serbia because I don't support the aggressor. I don't support Israel for the same reason.

@tr-tl8mv I think they're wise to go somewhere else.

I don't really care who damaged the pipelines (although it's almost certainly Russia). The two pipelines weren't in use, and their demise means that now Germany can stop hand wringing and face that they won't be getting any more gas no matter how much they suck up to Putin. Now maybe they'll honor a few more promises of equipment to Ukraine.

Don't accept pressure to sign an unfair minerals deal. Tell Trump where he can stick it - and remind him that if Ukraine falls because of him, he will have to negotiate with Putin to get his minerals. And good luck with that. And Ukraine does NOT have to pay back the value of aid supplied to date. From this date onwards, maybe - but it cannot be retrospective.

Well Anna, I wish to disagree with one thing you said near the start. If I remember correctly you said Russia lost from day one because of something Pootin did. I believe Russia lost from day one because Zelenskii didn't run. I believe Zelenskii staying, in spite of all the personal risks, galvanised the good people in Ukraine and gave them the morale boost they needed to resist the invasion. The war may not be won yet, but Zelenskii's actions prevented it from being lost in the first days. Slava Ukraini from New Zealand.

You speak of the "mantlepiece". Where I live that is the shelf above the fireplace, so I assume you are talking about a fireplace in the wall of your home. It is good practice to have the chimney swept once a year to get rid of excess soot. A build up of soot can result in a chimney fire, so if it hasn't been in use for a while, try to get it swept. Russia has destroyed too many houses already. We don't want you to accidentally burn your house down. Slava Ukraini.

I agree that knowing the truth is important - even if it isn't always nice. But it is also necessary to know the truth in order to be able to refute the lies of ruzzian trolls.

@nemo1877 The only country doing "destroying" is russia. Attempting to destroy Ukraine, and destroying itself in the process.

I think you are right about Putin winning the election. I believe the FSB are counting the votes as we type - even though they haven't been cast yet. lol.

@almitrahopkins1873 Unfortunately the US can no longer be trusted. Under Trump, they would likely turn on Ukraine to help russia.
1
@StepHen4change Not so. A ceasefire under russian terms (which appears to be what Trump is offering) will mean more Ukrainians will fall under russia control. This will not only ensure a lower living standard: less hop for their futures, and more meat for russia's next meatgrinder. I was once a peacenik too, but experience has taught me that naivety in a world inhabited by people like Purin and Trump, is likely to lead to enslavement.
1
@Loljdk I believe Ukraine is playing along with Trump's team, getting as much of Biden's munitions landed as possible, before pulling out at the last minute. Or maybe they'll stay, knowing that russia will break the ceasefire within days (if not hours).
1
@almitrahopkins1873 Don't send in US troops. Knowing Trump, he'll likely turn the troops on Ukraine instead of helping Ukraine.

Hi Anna. This is very sad. However, it appears it was a military training facility, and it was military personnel who were hit. Ukraine will (hopefully) learn from this.

I would not like Liz Truss to lead my country, she is too right wing for my tastes. However I do like her for her support of Ukraine. She has been very outspoken about Putin/Russia and so it seems under her leadership UK will continue to be one of the strongest Ukraine supporters.

Hi Anna. I'm enjoying this series. Thank you. One thing that you mentioned in this episode is the decision by USSR to make Russian compulsory, and the negative effect this had on many other languages spoken throughout the USSR. One issue often raised by trolls is that Ukraine "banned" the official use of Russian and that was one of the teasons the Donbas revolted. I can understand that Ukraine wanted, even needed, to reduce the "Russian" identity within Ukraine, for Ukraine to move ahead as an independent sovereign nation. However, I wondered if Ukraine was copying what the mistakes the USSR had made many years earlier and was stamping out other languages. For example, if the Tartars of Crimea had their own language (and I don't know if they do or not) was this also going to be a casualty? We have a similar situation here in New Zealand where the Maori language was discouraged. Maori children speaking Maori at school were punished. The language was nearly wiped out with almost no one speaking it as their first language by the last quarter of the 20th century. Now there is a revival with some schools even offering education solely in Maori. As recently as last month the government was discussing whether to make Maori compulsory in schools (as a second language).

We occasionally have power cuts (not caused by Orcs), sometimes due to weather or a vehicle hitting a power pole. We have a wood burning heater that can also be used to cook (slowly) and we have a gas stove and gas heated hot water - all of which can operate without electricity. And of course we have candles and battery torches. So I enjoy the occasional power cut. It takes me back to a simpler life. I'm not sure I'd enjoy it so much if it was every day. But you know this is a consequence of your fight for sovereignty and will not go on for ever. I'm sure that helps you cope with it. Keep up the reporting. Slava Ukraini.

It's like watching the fall of the Weimar Republic and the rise of Adolf and his Nazis. Only this time it's happening in the US. Very sad. Very scary.
