@tomfox6084 Where do you get that he tried to murder them? Snape wanted them sent to Azkaban, and that was because he didn't know that Sirius was innocent.

@tomfox6084 Clearly, it has been a while since you did. Snape was knocked unconscious before Sirius and Remus had the chance to reveal the truth. The Dementor's Kiss, while some argue may be worse than death, it is not execution. Based on what Snape knew at the time, he wanted to see an escaped serial killer and the person aiding and abetting that serial killer punished to the maximum extent of the law. Far different than "wanting to murder them," as you described, and he only revealed himself after Snape justified what he did to Snape 18 years earlier. And, while when Snape was unconscious and being taken out of the Shrieking Shack, Sirius repeatedly and intentionally hit his head against the wall, when the situation was reversed, Snape (when no one was looking) gently and safely removed Sirius.

@tomfox6084 So, the person who heard the people who tormented him for years claim their innocence, and he has enough when one of them boasts of his attempted murder as a teenager? Gee, no wonder why Snape wasn't convinced of the innocence of Sirius.

@tomfox6084 If they knew, then why does everything else in the book say that nobody else knew? Yes, there are theory channels that say that Dumbledore probably knew, but nobody knew that Pettigrew was an animagus other than the other Marauders, he was gone, and Sirius Black sat there laughing. It is a reasonable assumption that he was the traitor.

@tomfox6084 What specifically would be the cause for betrayal? James and Lily were dead, and very few of the Death Eaters remained truly loyal.

@tomfox6084 The Death Eaters didn't see Pettigrew at the time. He had long since hidden in his rat form.

@anjum3847 I'm not forgetting that at all. And there is a huge difference between having a personal dislike for someone and harm being your first priority. Snape put himself into harm's way repeatedly to protect Harry and the students in general. And if a test of true character is what you do when you think no one is watching, when leading unconscious people out of the Shrieking Shack, including the living person he hated the most (Sirius), he got them out carefully and gently, while Sirius repeatedly and intentionally hit Snape's head against the walls while he was unconscious.
