@dadikkedude The problem with simply relying on vaccination and contact tracing was that a) this was a new disease and didn't have a vaccine until it had already killed a million people worldwide, and b) you had too many paranoid idiots who refused to go along with any harm reduction strategies. The countries that didn't lock down (such as Sweden) fared among the worst, and the countries that did (such as Australia and New Zealand) fared the best. Sadly, our tools were limited in early 2020.

@s.tranger1074 Indeed. My uncle caught it as a baby and couldn't walk until he was five. He was very sickly most of his life and died at the age of 46. I'm sure he would have gladly taken the vaccine if it was available when he was younger.
