We have defeated the fascist, but we must continue to fight fascism and its enablers. If you want anything done, we have to help Warnock and Ossoff over the line in Georgia to give Bernie the gavel.

It takes time to build a successful movement. Bernie turned out to be our Moses showing the way, but if we do the actual work, we'll get our Joshua.

@MalevolentMonkeyGod Responding to a "genuine economic grievance" by voting for someone who made the Bush tax cuts look like Robin Hood in comparison is not a good response. There are fascists (who are awful), and there are fascist enablers.

@RationalAUS What about the ones who are educated and still have those feelings?

@FertilityTV Well, you just proved yourself wrong right there. You fell down the rabbit hole and now you're trying to drag us down it, too. Not gonna happen, because we're not looking to proven liars for confirmation bias.
2
@FertilityTV This isn't 2000 where you have someone trying to hold back a few hundred votes in one state. We are talking about thousands or tens of thousands of votes in at least four states, and the votes have already been counted. If the Supreme Court gives this election to Trump, democracy is over.

@NatuerlicheFruchtbarkeit English translation: Mail-in votes hurt my chosen candidate, so they can't possibly be fair.
1
@FertilityTV A million dollars says you're wrong. I'll take installments. And you keep Bernie's name out of your mouth. Your divide and conquer isn't working here.

@FertilityTV This didn't age well :-P

@MalevolentMonkeyGod "The result shows that"? Biden actually improved among white men, so that pretty much disproves that theory. And I've never heard "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" leading workers to favor the boss who keeps screwing them over and refusing to pay for their work.

@RationalAUS Nowhere near the United States? When did aborigines start getting included in the census, again? There are a lot of countries that have far more racism than they are prepared to admit. Seeing how Trump actually improved with black and Hispanic men tells me that misogyny also plays a role.
1
@MalevolentMonkeyGod You could say that the first time, but over and over when you see the stories of people who soured on Trump, the basic structure of the conversion was "I thought he was going to stick it to the people I didn't like, and then he stuck it to me." Let the anti-immigrant crowd talk long enough and it becomes obvious that "economic anxiety" is not the reason for their xenophobia.
1
@MalevolentMonkeyGod I agree with both counterfactuals. However, the exit polling clearly shows that economic anxiety was not the main cause for voting for Trump in 2016.
1
@MalevolentMonkeyGod I didn't say it is. My point was that a key portion of that group was motivated by that.

@lawndeeds74 I apologize for the delay in my reply. Well, there are actual definitions of fascism, so let's look at the 14 criteria for finding a fascist as identified by Umberto Eco (and remember that this doesn't mean that a fascist will automatically be able to succeed in setting up a fascist regime) and see how many Trump fit compared to Bernie. https://kottke.org/16/11/the-14-feautres-of-eternal-fascism 1) The cult of tradition. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 2) The rejection of modernism. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 3) The cult of action for action's sake. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 4) Disagreement is treason. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 5) Fear of difference. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 6) Appeal to social frustration. Trump: Yes; Bernie: Yes 7) The obsession with a plot. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 8) Enemies that are too strong and too weak. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 9) Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 10) Contempt for the weak. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 11) Everybody is educated to become a hero. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 12) Machismo and weaponry. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 13) Selective populism. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No 14) Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak. Trump: Yes; Bernie: No TOTAL: Trump: 14; Bernie: 1 We have a winner!

@lawndeeds74 You weren't making a comparison? "If anything Sanders if [sic] more of a fascist." You Do you Trump trolls just not remember what you said, or are you just like Dear Leader and the truth is whatever suits you the most in any given time?
1
@lawndeeds74 For starters, Make America Great Again is the literal manifestation of the first two points. If you don't know how many times that Trump has accused people of treason, you clearly haven't been paying attention. Either that, or you put it down the memory hole. If you want to tell me why I am mistaken, I'd be glad to hear it. Once you do that, then I'll go into the list in even greater detail.
