  1. Indeed. I remember in 2008 working a job where the boss insisted that nobody wanted to work because he got no one to respond to the help wanted ad. I pointed out that he didn't list the wage, so people just assumed it was minimum wage. Once he put the wages ($11.00/hour, or $13.64 in today's money), he got two within the day.

  2.  @bafflezbiz  Am I saying it was big bucks? No, I'm saying that prospective applicants probably thought the job paid minimum wage, so that's why nobody applied at first.
