@aylbdrmadison1051 It sounds like I want a democracy because I trust the people, and you want an aristocracy that knows better. I'm not giving up on democracy for something that can't even happen because it has to get through the Amendment process, and red states won't do it because they'll see it as a dig against Trump.

Because the requirements are written into the Constitution, so it would take an amendment to change it. Also, given the history of things like literacy tests, it is entirely possible that results could be faked to disenfranchise people. It's up to the people to make that judgment.
