Still more is funded by ending subsidies for fossil fuels. And if we aren't so dependent on fossil fuels, Saudi Arabia doesn't seem like such a key alliance anymore. And, let's talk about redistribution: since 1981, government has made every effort to distribute income and wealth up. In the 35 years before that, the poorest 20% actually saw income and wealth increase fastest of all, and the economy grew faster than it has since. Instead, we have seen the first break in the link between productivity and wages in recorded history. If that is "not redistributing," give me redistribution any day of the week.

The Cold War is over, so what is the excuse now?
