@shanwyn Not sure where my comment went, but I'll try again:
At least in the United States, where are these moderate conservatives? When they are needed to help the extremists, they always go along. For example, Murkowski opposed Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court and Collins opposed Barrett, but both needed to oppose each in order to keep them off the bench. It is a tactic known as "catch and release." On the other hand, I can think of plenty of times where what Democrats wanted to do was thwarted or watered down by Manchin, Sinema, or both.
Maybe the problem is that, quite frankly, a lot of Democrats would be the CDU if they were in places like Germany where that was an option, and there just really isn't anywhere to go. Barack Obama had a record to the right of Nixon, and it wasn't even close. The moderates spent over 30 years constantly moving halfway to the right to the point where a lot of what they propose would make Reagan blush.
As far as "working together" goes, it depends on what they're working towards.

@CloneDaddy I truly feel for you. Sometimes, I watch James O'Brien clips, and the thing that is so exasperating is that people say that Brexit needs to happen no matter what "to respect the vote," but when he asks them what Brexit means to point out that there is no consensus on what Brexit means, and no one seems to know (the most ridiculous was that fish and chips will start being wrapped in real newspaper again) what it means, so how can you enact that? Then, when Corbyn actually has a strategy to acknowledge that (have a negotiation, and then say either approve this or we are going to cancel Brexit), he is treated as indecisive. Well, here's hoping that Labour can either get to 326 or build a governing coalition.
Speaking of which, I have been trying to figure this out for some time now. Why does Sinn Fein run for Parliament if they refuse to sit when they win?

@joehatch1602 No, my point is that, when you need to buy a new one, factor fuel efficiency into the cost. I've never bought a new car (or paid five digits for one) in my entire life, but I buy a midsize sedan rather than an SUV.
The solution for "People are broke!" is not to vote for the party that opposes higher wages, but to do things like organize and vote for candidates that make it easier to do so. My union job was on a four-year contract signed in 2019 with scheduled raises totaling 18% over that time period. When it became obvious that inflation was a more persistent problem than originally thought, we got two retention bonuses this year totaling $1200, and we got our final pay raises for the contract early.
So, riddle me this, Batman, what proposals have Republicans actually made to increase wages or fight inflation? In a debate in 2015, Der Orangefuhrer said that "wages are too high in America," and his handpicked FED chair is blaming inflation on worker and expressing dismay that he hasn't killed the job market yet.

@joehatch1602 -government overspending
And yet you can't answer when I keep asking you why it didn't happen when deficits were higher, and you start sputtering about charging stations
-stimulus checks
There haven't been any stimulus checks in a year and a half, so nice try.
-student loan forgiveness
Well, a) this is new, and b) inflation was already dropping before the student loan forgiveness, which was put on hold, so once again, your ignorance is showing.
-sending money to Ukraine
Are you a Russian troll? If so, your grammar is better than most of the rest I have dealt with.
-no drilling contracts
And as I keep asking you, why do they need new contracts if they won't drill with the thousands they already have?
-shutting down coal plants
And when I asked which coal plants have been shut down, you never gave an example.
