So, the caller wonders why College should be tuition free, but he doesn't get that the reason why we call it "high school" is because people used to think that eighth grade was enough to function.

I remember an adult Sunday school where the teacher was trying to make peace between me and someone who was saying that global warming wasn't real. Her peace offering was to say that God could stop it. I replied, "That's true, but even if God were to remove enough carbon dioxide from the air to get us back to preindustrial levels, if we keep polluting, we'll be right back where we started. She admitted that was true. Then again, maybe the fact that I was 26 at the time and the other guy was in his 70s meant that I was more worried about it because I was more likely to see the effects.

As true today as it was when it was delivered.

@violax3467 Give it time. It will come to them, too.
37
I think it's both. Money is the primary goal, but he likes people standing up when he comes into a room and pretending that he is a great and important man.

I grew up in a town that peaked in population at 11,000 in 1950. By the time I was born in 1979, it was under 4000. Today, it is probably only about 10% of its peak. Somewhere along the way, we abandoned small towns and rural communities that aren't near highways, and something needs to be done.
25
So, he really thinks that he could speak extemporaneously and make a coherent statement for an hour? The ego!
23
If he's so good at predictions, then he needs to publish his findings and show his work to see if it stands up to scrutiny.
20
Ultimately, you just can't negotiate with Republicans because there is no middle ground with a group that wants your destruction. There are some Repiblican voters who are lazy and don't realize what happened to their party, so Biden has to pretend to listen, but until and unless they are going to make a substantive good faith counteroffer, there is no actual work with them.
17
@ace9840 Inflation has declined sharply, especially compared to other G7 countries; and your boy Trump killed a right-wing wish list of a border bill.
16
Question: if this guy thought that it was "hyperbole" to call Trump a fascist, what was his acceptable categorization of Trump before then?
14
Libertarians: People who believe the same thing on Wednesday that they did on Monday, regardless of what happened on Tuesday.
13
As a prop for their bogus arguments, always, but nothing more.
13
If your right to throw a punch ends at my nose, your right to expel germs does, too.
13
How is Trump ending the wars? He's trying to build up to wars in Iran and Venezuela.
12
Show up en masse and show the bigots that they won't win. Nonviolent action is what is making change happen.
12
Thank you so much for speaking out and showing the difference between isolation and peace!
11
Not in any of our lifetimes, anyway.

@smallfootprint2961 "It is easier to fool a man than to convince him that he has been fooled." Mark Twain

Do you also believe that the world is flat and there is no such place as Australia? After all, "everyone has an opinion."
9
michael battista Agreed, but it is still below 50%. Therefore, by definition, it can't be "most."
9
Also, do you think that randomly applying tariffs and losing the trade war as evidenced by the increasing trade deficit, all while trying to save a corrupt Chinese country is ending the bad trade deals and standing up for American workers? In a related note, can you name any substantial differences between NAFTA and the USMCA?
9
@michaellovullo7363 I see you mentioned deplorables three times. So, calling a bunch of racists deplorable really set you off? Interesting. Still, my point wasn't that Hillary is great, but that she is less bad than Trump. 1) Would have nominated Garland or someone to his left to replace Scalia 2) Every RBG health scare wouldn't be a major cause of dread about getting every good bill overturned by the Supreme Court 3) the Kurds 4) wouldn't be kidding Putin's butt 5) would have actually got out in the rain to walk with other leaders to the centennial of the end if WWI But, yeah, they are exactly the same.
9
Republicans want to emulate Chile during the Pinochet years in terms of economics.
9
Amerikan Idiot There was literally a zero chance that anyone other than Biden or Trump would win after the primary was over. What did you do to help Bernie win?

The exact phrase was "extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in the defense of justice is no virtue." The sad thing is that the GOP shifted so far to the right that in his lifetime he actually became a moderate in comparison. I remember giving a speech at a Young Dems event where I said that we needed to stop meeting the Republicans halfway or before we know it, Newt Gingrich would be considered a liberal. The line got laughs, but seven years later, him acknowledging the reality of the climate and supporting the individual mandate meant he wasn't far enough to the right for the GOP.
8
@Yatra-kj3zq What work did he actually do? He was the money man. He bought in early on Tesla, and the company needs subsidies to survive. He also relies on subsidies for SpaceX.
8
Another concern about an impending crash: the price to earnings ratio of the S&P is higher than it was for the Nasdaq at the height of the dot-com bubble. These stocks are seriously overpriced.
8
@davidlafleche1142 If not for my work and the work if others like me, there would be no rich people. Productivity has doubled since 1980, but wages have largely remained stagnant while income for the richest 1% has tripled. Therefore, they took the gains from our productivity. Therefore, they stole from the rest of us.
8
@michaellovullo7363 If after all this, you really think they are both the same, and that Trump getting two Supreme Court picks doesn't matter, I have to wonder if you have been paying attention.
8
I remember those honesty tests. I took one of them when I applied for a job at a gas station when I was in seminary. The question was if you caught someone in the middle of the act of stealing, and I said that I would warn the person to put it back rather than immediately turn him in. My application was immediately rejected.

"We can have publicly-funded elections in the public interest, or we can have privately-funded elections in the private interest." Dennis Kucinich, at a campaign stop in Huntington, WV, 2004
8
I am a Christian, so I believe in redemption, but I also believe that redemption requires repentance. If someone shows true repentance, then I will, but if not, I will give them a wide berth.
8
I guess fascists like Trump don't like being exposed.
7
@frankmorris4790 The rich making everyone else poorer comes from things like taking all the gains from productivity for 40 years. And in the less purely transactional, it comes from things like gutting education, making it more difficult for people to climb the ladder.
7
@BigRedR-o7h You mean the party that killed socialists and communists, and sat on the far right of the parliament? That party?
7
@screenarts So, the response to money going to the wealthy donors is to send even more to the wealthy donors?
7
In 1980, Ronald Reagan decided to stop acting on the interests of working people and he a corporate stooge, and too many people who didn't know their history forgot what happened the last time we did that, and Democrats were too frightened to defend working people because they thought they needed corporate donors to survive. A perfect storm that we need a solid fighter to pull us out of.
7
@laurenhilbert7805 And if you make your money by exploiting people or polluting the planet, how is that "blameless"?
6
If you don't vaccinate a sufficient amount for herd immunity, herd immunity comes through illness. Great plan!
6
Let us not forget how well things worked out when the US supported a coup against Chavez in 2002. Not that I am a fan of either Chavez or Maduro, but I really hate these coups. Haven't we learned our lesson yet?
6
@tiffanyhouchin6055 Actually, Feingold was the only Senator to vote against it. Bernie did oppose it, and voted against it, but he was in the House at the time.
6
Have you seen the way she has gone after Bernie lately? She clearly blames him for her collapse.
6
I, for one, am sick of the talk of George McGovern as a far left candidate. The way he screwed over labor over and over again proves it. Most famous was reducing labor's influence through the commission that bore his name, but let us not forget that his last public political act was opposing card check in 2009.
6
Well, everyone should get medical insurance through Medicare, but other than that, you are right. If someone can't run a business while paying decent wages, that person shouldn't be running one.
6
@joshreisner2190 You mean like Turkey? We promised to protect the Kurds if they helped us fight ISIS. 28 years ago, we promised the same thing if they rose up against Saddam Hussein, and we hung them out to dry. You don't do that to people who help you. Period.
6
The people of Arizona are already rejecting her. Nominating her again will guarantee defeat, and the state is going bluer by the day. Your appeal to identity as an excuse for a blue state Senator being this way is appalling.
6
"There's literally not a single white person in the Bible." Well, maybe Pontius Pilate and some of the Roman leaders in Acts, but I get what you mean about the ones to be used as a positive example.
6
It means "stop showing me up for the triangulating coward that I am."
5
@waliwingman735 I even gave an example to make it more obvious what was happening, and it still didn't sink through. Have you ever worked on or counted an election of any kind? You don't add the votes to the total one-by-one. That would take far too long. What you do is have batches, and then you add the total from that batch to the overall total. If the updated totals are released hourly, or even every few minutes, there will be jumps. So, do you understand now, or are you going to hold onto your willful ignorance?
