Only about 14% of Americans owned guns in the 18th century. Remember that.

@phillipbernhardt-house6907 True. As a former member of Americans United for Separation of Church and State (I let my membership lapse during the salad days of seminary), I am quite familiar with the expression First Freedom First. It's actually embarrassing that I didn't actually pick up on the Separation Clause until college. Far too often, people forget about that one, because you can't really have free exercise without it. And as a Baptist (whose denomination helped lead the fight for it), no less!

@d.e.b.b5788 Garry Wills wrote about it in his book A Necessary Evil, talking about the history of government skepticism at the founding of America. Using wills (which were so detailed that they literally included things like broken cups), only 14% included bequeathing a firearm.

Actually, Amen comes from the Aramaic for "let it be."

@antifazisbonifaz6964 There are hypotheses for a bunch of things. The real question is what other evidence you have to back it up. When you look in the Bible, the word Amen doesn't appear in the Torah, where one would expect exposure. There's plenty after the Babylonian captivity, though, where the writers would have come into contact with Aramaic.

Actually, there are several other clauses, but these are the Religion Clauses in the First Amendment. It also covers speech, freedom of the press, to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government.
