  2.  charles allan  Who was a crackpot who complained about government spending while being particularly adept at getting earmarks for his district, who opposed bailouts but thought that slaveowners should have gotten one, and thought that government couldn't deal with civil rights because that would be intrusive but had no problem with a policy on pregnancy that, followed to its logical conclusion, would make every miscarriage a cause for criminal investigation. America dodged a bullet that he never won a single statewide election (US Senate, presidential primaries, no states in a presidential election in his life). Now, he can go back to profiting off his newsletters and trying to convince people that buying an ounce of something that will continue to be that ounce decades down the road is an investment.
