Nobody forced him to decide to play spoiler on the backs of such a toxic organization.

He should have known. He saw the effect of Nader 2000, and he warned people about it in 2020.

@schoolsgirl Bernie got childhood poverty cut in half, so yeah, he's gotten more done running as a Democrat than Cornel West playing spoiler.

@aaronmcconkey1062 What specifically do you think would actually accomplish anything that he's not doing? The only thing that has actually worked in this country's history is getting a foothold and building on gains. Edward Kennedy always said that his biggest regret was killing Nixon's health care plan in 1971 was because he was convinced he could get something better... and spent 38 years trying, and never got anything else as good.

If a third party is serious, it would work on electing candidates and the state and local level instead of vanity campaigns for President knowing that they'll never win and will only enable the people whp they claim to oppose more.

@AConquerorsVendetta For lack of a better term, he's running the MPP.

@uninstaller2860 Third party in a Presidential race is advocated by a combination of saboteurs and people who don't understand how the rules work.

@aaronmcconkey1062 Things take time. As far as "we tried, so I give up," what did you personally do to try to get Bernie elected or help get some people down ballot elected considering that Congress actually has to pass laws?
1
@Cindy99765 Other countries don't have an Electoral College that requires a plurality to win electoral votes but a majority of electoral votes to win, or else the election gets decided in the House... where it will be decided by Democrats and Republicans.
1
What would running with that group of grifters (look up how much support they get from Republicans and how many state Green parties have been taken over by Republicans) and dupes going to be any different than running on the backs of this group of grifters and dupes?
1
@Segkee If it enables Trump to win and set up a fascist dictatorship, then yes, it destroys his entire legacy.
1
@mickiemallorie If they really cared about building a voice, running a race where they get maybe 1% and make it easier for people farthest away from what they claim to want accomplishes nothing. No, wait: it accomplishes less than nothing, because it actively makes things worse. And you know who knows this? Cornel West, because in 2020, he said that "we have to slay the dragon of neo-fascism before we can slay the dragon of neoliberalism."
1
@KingOfShenanigan And here's a dirty little secret for the whole "revolutuonary" arc: the Electoral College guarantees a two-party system. If that's what you really cared about, you'd be talking about work at the local level to build a party.
1
@KingOfShenanigan Oh, yes, because it's all about i-DEE-uhs and not actually doing anything to make anyone's lives better. How's that worked out for the last 200 years?
1
@KingOfShenanigan And if they run as a third-party candidate or an independent, they aren't taking votes equally from the major parties. This isn't about your ego, it is people's lives at stake. Five Justices on the Supreme Court got there in no small part because of people insisting that there was no difference between the two major parties, and as we have seen, there is a huge difference between a 5-4 Supreme Court and a 6-3 Supreme Court. Let us also not forget that Gore opposed the war in Iraq. Or that Trump ripped up the pandemic response plan and thanks to that over a million people are dead. As long as we have an Electoral College with FPTP voting in the states and an absolute majority of electoral votes needed in order to keep the election out of the House (where it will be decided by Democrats and Republicans), voting third party actively makes things worse because some people see voting as an exercise in ego rather than an exercise in self governance.
1
@KingOfShenanigan And who actually did more for socialism in the 20th century, Eugene Debs or the Sewer Socialists in Milwaukee? As far as building a movement, here's a fact about how well third party Presidential campaigns work on that front. In all of American history, every third party campaign or independent movement that got 5% of the national popular vote got a lower percentage the next time out, and only one (Perot as an Independent and then under the Reform Party) got more than 5% twice, and that's because he fell from 19% to 8.

Bernie won't, but Nina Turner is backing this Cornel West nonsense, so I guess that was the next apple to fall.
1
"Why nit try the Green Party?" You mean the group that has never elected a statewide or Congressional candidate in 50 years of trying?
