  1. I remember 2006. Obama came to WV as the keynote speaker at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. I had gone to three others with elected officials (John Edwards, Barbara Mikulski, and Mark Warner) as keynote speaker. He was brought in to try to help push Robert C. Byrd over the line for a record ninth term, because people worried that his age might make him vulnerable. Obama had time for everyone who gave the maximum $1000 donation to the party, but he couldn't get out of that room fast enough when it came to the volunteers or the people who paid a regular ticket price, even though I got to meet each of the other three I mentioned. That told me who he really was when he started talking about monied interests. A friend of mine who supported Obama in the primary was still angry when I visited two weeks later because, while Hillary had went to so many stops in the Mountain State you could be forgiven for thinking she was running for governor instead of President, and Obama made one appearance in the state, and it was a rally in the Civic Center. No wonder he lost the primary by 41 points. He is all distant charisma, no personal touch.
