@tristanmaxwell8403 So, only those in the military or those who have a full-time job? The average enlistment for active duty is 3-4 years, so what about someone who joins at 18 and gets discharged before the age of 25? What about those in reserve components? And you don't have to work full time to pay taxes.

@tristanmaxwell8403 You need sources showing that he is a fascist? Read Umberto Eco''a 14 Characteristics of Ur-Fascism and tell me which ones don't apply to Trump, if any. As far as not seeing his fascism, I'd call sending his supporters to the Capitol to try to violently overturn the results of a democratic election is pretty fascist, wouldn't you?

@tristanmaxwell8403 Even though a third of everyone who serves in war is in a reserve component? You know, if you didn't go the Super Troopers route, you wouldn't have such problems. All you had to do was respect the Twenty-sixth Amendment to save yourself from it.

@tristanmaxwell8403 How do you define "debunked"?
1
@tristanmaxwell8403 Because of porn spammers, a lot of YouTube channels won't let you post links. Umberto Eco grew up during Italian fascism, and he was a historian and researcher, so his credentials are secure. He wrote a list of 14 traits that all developing fascist movements (which he called Ur-Fascism) share. Here is the list. Tell me which of these you think don't apply to Donald Trump and his movement: 1) The cult of tradition 2) The rejection of modernism 3) The cult of action for action's sake 4) Disagreement is treason 5) Fear of difference 6) Fear of social frustration 7) The obsession with a plot 8) The enemy is both strong and weak 9) Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy 10) Contempt for the weak 11) Everybody is educated to become a hero 12) Machismo and weaponry 13) Selective populism 14) Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak

@FlyingT20 "Increasing more civic opportunities for younger voters" by changing the Constitution to make them pass a test to be able to vote? Yeah, that makes sense.
1
@christianbrooks9155 The problem is not whether or not people can pass a test. The problem, as literacy tests have proven, is that tests can be used to keep "those people" from voting based on how they are evaluated. Anyone who actually knows history and understands civics knows why such a test is antithetical to democracy.
1
@christianbrooks9155 "A republic NOT a democracy" shows that, not only do you hate democracy, but you don't understand the definition of republic. All a republic means is that there is no monarch. You can be a republic and a democracy (such as France and Germany) or a republic and not a democracy (such as China and Vietnam). You can put whatever lipstick you want on your "my party performs poorly with younger voters so I'll just take away their right to vote" pig all you want, but it's still a pig.
1
@FlyingT20 Let me help you out. There are a limited number of "civic opportunities" out there. Making it more difficult for people to vote is going to make it less likely that elected officials pay any attention to them. Your up is down logic might work other places, but not here.
1
@FlyingT20 "It is not a literacy test, it is an multiple choice test" Yes, because standardized tests can never be manipulated to make it easier for people to fail. "He should have thought about how it would be perceived" Because taking away the rights of people is a perception problem, and never the intentions of authoritarians who want to reduce the impact of a voting bloc that they know is one of the least likely to vote for them. And, you know what. I don't care how easy the test is. It is about taking away the right of certain people that Vivek Ramaswamy deems unworthy to vote, and that should make the blood of anyone who loves this country run cold.
1
@FlyingT20 I called Trump a fascist. I called Vivek an authoritarian. All fascists are authoritarian, but not all authoritarians are fascist. And, yes, wanting to take away the right of people to vote who are one of the most likely to vote against you is a total authoritarian move.
1
@FlyingT20 "No rights are being taken away." Now: Everyone over the age of 18 is allowed to vote. If Vivek gets his way: only people aged 18-24 who can pass a test or perform a job that he deems worthy will be eligible to vote. It doesn't take a genius to realize that plenty of people will lose their right to vote under this system. Just because you are too dishonest to admit that this is the case doesn't make it any less so.
1
@FlyingT20 Will people not be able to vote under his proposal who are eligible to vote now? Re: authoritarian vs. libertarian, the gap between the two is much smaller than you think. See also: Pinochet, Augusto.

@FlyingT20 "youth is way more likely to vote for him in the primary" Yes, because the group that says that environmental protection is one of the most important, if not the most important, issue is going to vote for the guy who says "climate change is a hoax." And when I checked the Fairleigh Dickinson poll, they had a breakdown of primary support by age. Vivek Ramaswamy had a nice, round number among voters under 30.
