We lack supply in college professors, TAs, tutors, dorms, classrooms, etc. If the government were to take that money and give it to students to spend on colleges all colleges will do is raise tuition. We see that already with the student loan program. The student loan program is your "free college" at work. Almost everyone qualifies, and in the end you pay it off. No different then raising your taxes the rest of your life to pay for tuition free college. The student loan program led to sky rocketing tuition.

  2. How do you keep the quality high? If you force businesses to keep prices low then they will just lower the quality. It is like rent control. You keep rent down then landlords keep the quality down. This is another one of Bernie's magical plans that will never work.

  3. VitalVampyr, it is basic economics. You go up to a company as the government and tell them that they cannot sell their product at a higher price they will lower the quality. In others nations you see lower quality due to lack of research and innovation.

  4. To add, you have to remember that this federal government is corrupt. "Negotiating" prices could mean buying from the company that is the highest bidder. The idea that the federal government can just negotiate lowering prices is a myth.
