Daniel Jacob Businesses will close down some of their shops and go to more automation to get work done.  Every time the min. wage goes up so does unemployment for unskilled workers.  When the min. wage went up the business I worked for closed an hour earlier since it was more profitable for them to do so.  As a last resort they will raise prices which hurts those with a low income.  Over 60% of those in poverty don't have jobs and 3/4 of those making $9.50/hr or less are not poor, those in poverty who have a job make over $10/hr, a price raise, even small, will hurt them severely.
