  2. Unemployment is going down so we are not in a recession. Inflation has not gone up that much either. That is why we are not in a recession. "But the way it's normally taught in Western economics courses" I am taking an econ based course right now, a grad level one and that is what we were taught to go off of the NBER standard. Is is what FRED uses. So no, we are not in a recession. When you look at FRED charts they have gray areas to show recessions.

  5. KazukoLight, they are paying bills now, so they have enough money. You give them more they should save it and invest in something larger. The rich have a completely different lifestyle and financial situation. They have businesses to invest in, or will invest in other areas of the economy. They spend a large portion of their income as well. Even if they save it banks are required, by law, to hold onto no more than 10% of the money saved. They have to loan out the rest. So even if the rich don't spend it is more money for the banks to loan out.
