Ben starts out to say the H in the name Hice stands for hate, what is wrong with this guy? Marriage isn't a right. You can make an argument that based on the 14th amendment that if a state recognizes marriage they should recognize same sex marriage but marriage itself is not a right. The 14th amendment provides protection from the government but doesn't grant any right. So in all gays do have equal rights.

Baloo Dumptruck Yes they do, name one they don't have.

***** When we allowed interracial marriage to be legal we also saw an increase in divorce rates. Allowing gay marriage to happen could lead to more divorces and more broken homes. There are problems that can come from it. One could also question on how much of a role should the government play in religion? People feel that the government is there to protect people from themselves, why can't the government regulate religion more to try to lower divorces? This isn't a black and white issue. With that I take the stance of the 14th amendment.

***** What I am implying that with anything there is good and bad. With gay marriage you can create segregation where people will tend to live in an area that consists of people like them. We see that with minorities. Just walk in different public schools and you see some that are mostly black and some that are mostly white. We could see an increase in divorce rates. Interracial couples do have a higher divorce rate. It is a complicated issue but there is a correlation. There can be harm done by allowing gay marriage to take place. To say so otherwise would be ignorant. It happens with any issue.

***** I don't oppose gay marriage, I have gay friends. I am also not religious, you are making a straw man argument here. There will be some negative effects from allowing gay marriage to happen, there will also be positive things to happen. This isn't a black and white issue, that is my point. I approached this situation as a moderate and made my decision on whether gay marriage should be legal on not based on the constitution. With that I am still accused of being a racist, a bigot and a religious radical. This is why we can't any progress done, people like you make accusations instead of having an actual discussion on the subject.

***** I did put forth an argument. When interracial marriage was allowed than divorce rates went up. That can happen under gay marriage. We don't know for sure but it can. Segregation can happen in that we do see races that segregate and it isn't just because of economics. You refuse to even consider that harm may come from gay marriage. As I said before I am not opposed to it I am just saying there will be harm from it and there will be some benefits from it. A question that not many ask is why is the government involved in marriage to begin with? It seems to be playing a lot of nasty effects. We should be questioning government's role in certain areas and the limitations of it. You don't seem to know my position. I have seen a gay couple who were my friends get married in Iowa a few years back and I supported them. I feel that gay marriage should be legal on one simple reason, the 14th amendment because it places a limitation on the government. I make that argument and you attack back with saying I am religious and religion is the problem. The problem is that we have politicized marriage and fail to follow the constitution.

***** I feel interracial marriage should remain legal as well. Here is your problem, you are making a decision on pure emotion. You are no different than a person who opposes gay marriage, they do so on pure emotion. I step back from emotional arguments and looked at the whole situation and I made my determination based on the constitution, that is it. If you want to progress in gay marriage and any thing else in this country you have to stop having emotional arguments because it turns people off. By what you tell me you are nothing more than a cry baby that cries because you can't get their way. No different than some 3rd grader I work with that complains when they lose their recess time.

***** Ok, here is the biggest problem of allowing gay marriage. We allow it, then what are gays going to complain about? You are making an emotional argument which means once gay marriage is allowed then gays will find something else to complain about. Just like with women, they were given equal rights but now they are overreaching. I make my decision by looking at the constitution, you make your decision on emotions. I have no problem with gay marriage, they just have to realize when they get it they can't go on and complain about something else and overreach to where they end up getting more rights. I gave you my explanation, you just don't like it because it wasn't emotional to where you can rip on me and call me names but you did it anyway.

***** You wanted me to list some negatives of gay marriage, that is a big one. Yes people have the right to complain but when that complaining turns into policies that violate the constitution or hurts the economy that is when it becomes a problem. Marriage does play a role in the economy and so one has to question if the government should be playing a role in it? It does play a role in marriage, and based on the 14th amendment it can't discriminate thus gay marriage should be legal. This is an issue on the role of government and the limitations it should have.
