Way not to look at the issue and play emotional name calling games. This is the reason why we have Obama as president. Lets not discuss the issues like adults but instead base everything on emotions and name calling.

......of goods and services. That isn't the only thing they will do but that is one. It is one Clinton suggested to Cain back in 94 to pay for the healthcare bill. Another thing they is stop giving out raises, cut hours and stop hiring low skill workers. The price of goods go up and a lot of people wages won't, the people who already make above the new min. wage won't see a raise. So now you just increased the cost of living thus the poverty line. It doesn't work. Do the research.

Slavery is making no money. The fact is that most minimum wage jobs are jobs like restaurants or grocery stores where people go to get basic needs like food or clothing. You force companies to pay them more they will just raise the prices of those good hurting the middle class. Also, 89% of minimum wage workers live in a household that is above the poverty line, so they are not poor.

If minimum wage was $22/hr a gallon of milk will cost over $11 so what have you gained?

Wow, you are dumber than I thought. But what can I expect from an Obama supporter. I can give you a chance to redeem yourself. Tell me how raising min. wage will help our society. I will respond and I will give you a chance to defend yourself. Right now all I hear from you is emotional name calling leaving me to see you as asinine.

Most people pay minimum wage because they can't afford to pay more. Business owners want happy and healthy workers and they want the best so the ones that pay the most get that. That is why big businesses offer benefits so they can get good workers. I know many businesses that lost workers to another one because the other one paid more because they could afford to. Raising the minimum wage will hurt small businesses, I have seen it first hand.
1
When the min. wage was first established if you take that and ad in inflation it would be $4.14/hr. Why did you pick 1968 when we have had the min. wage before that? Seems like you are picking data to support your argument instead of looking at the whole story.

The thing is is that if you force a business to pay a certain set of workers more, those workers being low skill worker, the business has to adjust. One way is to stop raises and cut hours. They want to pay managers and more full time staff with more skill more but they can't if they are forced to pay lower skill workers more. I seen it happen as well. When min. wage went up my raises stopped even though I work the hardest job there. It was because they had to pay a lower skill worker more.

We have an increase in productivity because of technology. Workers are actually working less but they produce more because a walmart cashier runs a computer that has more computing power Apollo 11.

If you raise the min. wage you hinder people from getting part time job. Lets have this scenario. A worker makes $12/hr at his fulltime job A. He works part time at job B and makes a small wage. Job B loves this guy and offers him to work full time. Now this guy has leverage because he can sell himself. Who wants him more, Job A or B and the one that wants him more will pay the most. If you raise the min. wage businesses won't hire part time workers thus lack of competition.

What is wrong with CEO's earning 6 figures? They are smart with money and usually they invest a lot of it which drives the economy. Giving a small percentage of the working class a few thousand more dollars isn't going to do anything especially when it is countered by job lost in small business. Also, the average household income of a minimum wage earner is over $47,000 a year and 89% of them live over the poverty level. And, Canada has never seen unemployment under 5% since at least 1990.

If adjusted for inflation the min. wage would be $4.14/hr.

Yes, that is why every company is paying everyone the minimum wage......oh, wait.....

Big businesses have given out raises and do pay more then minimum wage. Small businesses are the only businesses that pay minimum wage. They pay it for one simple reason, they can't afford to pay more. Raising minimum wage won't do crap for big businesses, it will hurt small businesses though to the point they will have to lay off worker or raise their prices. McDonalds has a dollar and pay more than minimum wage in a lot of cases. You local burger shack can't do that.

Ok, lets see. An individual making around $7,000/yr has a spouse who makes $50,000/yr is fine. Almost half of parents who earn less than $10,000/yr lives with a spouse who makes at least $50,000/yr. I work a min. wage job, but it is part time which is what min. wage jobs should be.
1
You can work a min. wage job and live off it. I do but it is a part time job for supplemental income. Point being is that you basically have to work harder. Ask for help from family or friends. Get roommates, cut back on expenses. People do that already. 89% of individuals who earn $9.50/hr or less are above the poverty line. Handouts like welfare is giving money away for nothing and people do want to take the easy way out instead of work.

I have. Now tell me how I am a stupid fool.

Well business owners take the financial risk so they deserve to make a lot of money, that is big in small businesses. Those owners also do a lot of the work. You expect them to do a lot of work and make little doing it? Bigger businesses have to worry about stock holders and usually invest to grow. They will buy out failing businesses or invest in a way to improve their current business in hope of creating more jobs and better pay and working conditions.
1
I know the issue. The thing is that trickle down theory doesn't work because it doesn't exist with the exception of a very few big businesses. The reason being is because business owners pay themselves last, especially small ones. So when you force them to pay people more who aren't worth it they either lay them off or raise prices. Raising min. wage if anything will actually increase poverty by increasing the poverty line. When you raise min. wage business will counter by raising prices......

Australia is also ranked higher than the US in index of economic freedom. Because of the economic freedom the consumer and businesses do better thus the less expensive burger and more jobs. The US will never be able to withstand a $14/hr min. wage. Businesses in the US will just cut employees like they already are due to lack of freedom.

People can live on $5/hr. I did, my former roommate did before she got a better paying job. When I was making that much it was my first job and I was living with my parent. My roommate was renting out one of my rooms but the rest of the place was mind. I made way more money then she did and I allowed here to live here simply so she can move up. Point being, you can live off a low wage job which is why a living wage doesn't exist.

The average walmart employee makes around $8.50 per hour, so already higher than minimum wage. And how many are those are part time? Also, if you force walmart to pay its employees more they will just fire them. People are always going to go to walmart for their low prices because that is what people can afford. Walmart doesn't care if you have to wait in line forever, they know you can't go to anyone else. These two ladies need to learn some economics.
1
Companies won't start paying low wages if there wasn't a min. wage because most companies already pay higher than the min. wage. Those benefits and welfare programs hinder society and our economy. You are giving money away which takes away the incentive to work and doesn't invest any money. And you have to make sacrifices in life. Living with roommates or working multiple jobs increases the incentive to do better and brings up competition.
1
Businesses can't afford higher wages because they simply can't afford to. Your mindset is to get rid of all small businesses and we will have no choice but go to every big corporation like Walmart for our goods.

Every time in the US (except once, the first time it happen) when the minimum wage went up a spike in unemployment happen. Small businesses do bankrupt, they do stop hiring or only hire people with more experience and more importantly, stop giving out raises. I have experience it first hand working in small business and having several friends and family that own small businesses. Also, as mentioned before, minimum wage workers live in households that make on average over $47,000 a year.
