.....that company either not hires that person, so now the high school kid gets no experience, less money for an establish household and retiree. Or the business raise prices so now the cost of living goes up. If you raise the min. wage to $9/hr the person making $10/hr, or me making $12/hr don't get a raise so now my cost of living went up but not my wage. So now you basically just raised the poverty level and made people's life harder.

I am not a libertarian. It is true that a lot of people don't know economics. Socialism doesn't work in the US. People are very independent in the US, it is too diverse and too big. A socialist country like Norway has only 5 million people in it where 89% of the people are Norwegian. Easy to set up a system that works when few people that are the same. Also, problem with socialism is that hard working people with money get sick of pay the bill for those that don't work. They also hate how.....
1
That is basic business practice and basic economics. Raising the min. wage won't help the economy. If it did then why not go to $100/hr?
1
.....bring in extra money into a household for a little bit to save up for retirement or a nice trip or piece of furniture. The retiree is easing out of the workforce. The high school kid is starting a resume. These are people who are not trying to make a living but are gaining extra money. They don't need that much money if at all. They do low skill jobs with flexible hours so they are not worth much and thus not paid much. You force a company to pay those workers more what happens is......

Socialism doesn't work unless you have a country that is more or less fascist where people are pretty much the same and are just a bunch of drones. Even at that it still doesn't work because instead of society determining how much something is work the government is. What you get is then someone being paid more then what they are worth which drives up the cost of doing business and ruin the economy.

Funny. Where I work and other jobs I worked women were equal. In a lot of cases they were paid more. I guess you are another democrat that never worked or never done research on the issue and continue to make women second class citizens.
1
One of the easiest jobs I worked was at a warehouse. Required very little thought but it paid better than a job I work now that pays min. wage. My min. wage job is very flexible with hours in terms of around school and my other better paying job. The warehouse, despite requiring very little skill paid more because the hours were strict. I had to be there at a certain time and it had stricter requirements to get hired. Same with my higher paying job now.

Stereotypes exist for a reasons. Stereotyping does not make you a bigot. It is illegal to be violent towards anyone, not just women. We are treating women like second class citizens when we pass a bill directed at just them. When do we indiscriminately bomb Yemenis? The US is a very diverse country as oppose to European countries who are mainly white. We are a very forgiving and accepting country.
1
We have made it illegal to commit violence against women. When we try to pass a bill to do so it is purely political. And stereotypes exist for a reason. A lot of times statistics show it.

.....the value of the dollar goes down because money is invested in people who produce nothing. Think about it, if you give money to someone who does nothing to earn it then that money has no value. That is what welfare is. People get money for nothing then buy something with it. There is an over abundance of money so it isn't worth as much. Supply and demand, basics of economics. I work my ass off and earn $5 and someone does nothing are still gets $5 then $5 is worthless. Why should I work....
1
.....when I can do nothing and still get $5? That guy who did nothing can still buy a gallon of milk without working for it. Really, would actually happen is no I can't buy a gallon of milk for that $5 because a business views that money is worthless since a lot of people have it so they will charge more

Increase the wages of those fast food workers and say bye-bye to the dollar menu and jobs there. If you are trying to make a living off of a fast food min. wage job then you are beyond help. It isn't my fault those people weren't responsible enough to move up to a higher paying job. Just because they are lazy doesn't mean I have to pay their bills. If you want too then fine, donate, but I am not.

I don't agree with corporate bailouts, but very few exist and only happen during the bailout bill. There are corporate tax cuts because we have the highest corporate tax rates in the world. The military is a strong investment of tax dollars. We are spending money on people who are productive and honestly can make more money in the private sector so it is hard to retain the best and the brightest to protect our country. Welfare on the other hand is giving money to someone who does nothing.
1
There are people that are taking advantage of the system. We have unemployment of over 7% but yet we have an obesity problem. There is no incentive to get off of welfare. It is one thing to use it and get off it quickly but too many people are not doing that. Plus, if times are rough then ask for help. Ask friends, family, and work to move up. Times were rough for me. I got help from friends and family, volunteer and I am making money and paid back people. It is called work, you should try it.
1
No. We have a president that refuses to work with others. He is a terrible leader and we don't know what is going to happen in DC. As a result investors are scared to invest. To attract them businesses are holding profits to show investors they will get more money back. They are not going to spend in an uncertain economy. We don't know how the government is going to spend, the state of taxes or the economy.
1
Bailouts, while I disagree with were more of an investment than welfare. They create jobs, not broke people.
1
No, what helps the economy is lowering the price of goods and services. When you do something like raise taxes then prices go up. When you do something like raise the min. wage then prices go up because people who work min. wage jobs are no making more then what they are worth and in reality they don't need more money because 89% of min. wage earners are above the poverty level and live in a household with an average income of $47,000. Lower prices and the economy booms.
1
Grants are an investment to where someone gets an education and potentially gets a career where they are productive to society and the economy. Welfare can be a system where someone in trouble can use to get back on their feet but too many people are abusing it which is hurting the economy. Look, we have over 7% unemployment but an obesity problem. There is a problem. People on food stamp get more money then I spend on food. It is becoming a problem.
1
It isn't one person earning that $47,000/yr but a combination of a main earner plus a part time earner. Example, when I was making min. wage the household income $65,000/yr. My dad was make $48,000/yr and my sister and myself were making the rest of the $17,000/yr between us with our min. wage jobs. Seriously, do some research on the subject before you criticize.
1
Or it may be that we don't live in a "progressive" utopia because unlike other countries the US is very forgiving and accepting. Other countries have very strict immigration laws and are not as free so socialism or "progressive" ideas work.
1
Overall, at my first job I was getting a lot of raises after I started at $5.15/hr. I earned up to $8/hr due to developing a skill, working harder hours and more demanding jobs and in that small town that was a good amount of money for a college student. I was very profitable and could have gotten more raises but when min. wage went up to $7.25/hr my raises stopped because now they had to pay a new dishwasher about the same amount as me even though I work there for years.

Women are treated as equals. They are paid as equals as well. Facts have shown that. Now stop treating women like second rate citizens because real hard working women out there hate it.
1
I don't see a difference between a man and a woman which is why myself, as a republican, oppose laws that make women inferiors and special. Like the violence against women act. I am against violence of both sexes. Or equal pay for equal work when that has been shown to be false. Women earn the same for the same work. Democrats are the ones that make women 2nd class citizens by saying they can't make it without government help.
1
No, you are not proof. As I mentioned before the US is very accepting and forgiving so we have more challenges then Scotland. Scotland, a population of a little over 5 million, more than half of the states have a greater population where over 97% of the country is white. A small population of the same people makes socialize and "progressive" policies capable of working. The US have to deal with actual issues but at least we are not a bunch of bigots.
1
What country are you from?
1
No, I was born in 1987. I was working and my household was making that much money in the early 2000s. We were fine with that money. What causes the cost of living to go up is frivolous regulations like the min. wage. Min. wage jobs are for very low skill workers like restaurant cashiers, shelve stocker at grocery stores, a dishwasher. Jobs done by high schoolers or a retiree or a parent whose kids are old so they work part time after being out of the workforce for years. They work to.....
1
First off, those corporation are going to make their money. One factor economics usually doesn't play is human emotions and greed. So attack them with taxes and they will just leave. Another, min. wage earners live in a household that on average makes over $47,000/yr because they are not the main earner of the home. They are a teenager working part time or a spouse working part time because those are the jobs that pay min. wage, low skill flexible hour jobs.
1
No. If you are trying to make a living on your own on min. wage then you are way beyond help. The research showed households of min. wage earners make on average over $47,000/yr. That is because min. wage workers are part time workers. They are workers with very low skill and flexible hours so a company pays them very low. If you want higher pay than develop more skills and stricter hours.
