  5. thebill1, the federal government has been growing for years. We never used to have programs like the EPA, OSHA or the Department of Education until the 70s. Now we do, and what have they accomplished? Federal government spending as percent of GDP has been steadily increasing for decades along with our debt. The federal government is already too big and needs to be downsized as it is the root of our problems. Criticizing Trump for not filling in meaningless jobs to continue the growth of the federal government is a poor criticism against him. Why are those jobs needed? Tell me that. Why do we need to continue growing the federal government? Tell me that. Do you think our society will cease to exist if we downsize the federal government?
