Say this drug was so rare and challenging to develop it cost $1 million? What will be your opinion at that point? Fact is no system is ideal. There are shortcomings.

  9. It is true. At 38 this is a rare case. Even at that if at 38, with a full time job and being married, if you cannot afford $116 then that is your fault. You did something wrong. This is tragic, but also a rare event given all of the circumstances. As for people complaining about the system, in other countries they have shortcomings in healthcare as well. You cannot use this one story as an example the US system being inferior as one can find many horror stories in other nations as well.
