This rather vague. You can give money to the poor, but if there is nothing to spend it on then it does not matter. That is the issue. We can give more money to the poor, now are they going to spend it opening up a new business?

Biscuit Eater If you take money from those who produce and give to those who don't then yes, there will be nothing to spend it on. Someone asked me a question on if you give 10 people a billion dollars or 100 people $10,000 then who will spend it? I said if you give 100 people $10,000 then there will be no businesses selling food or anyplace providing an education. As opposed to that 10 people getting a billion dollars will invest creating businesses to sell goods and services they produce. Granted, those are the extreme cases, but giving money to the poor does not necessarily mean it benefits the economy.

Kitzy Gemtail But if there is nothing to spend it on it does not matter. People who save money do so in banks or stocks which are used for scholarships or for loans to buy a home or start a business. In the end you can't consume what you don't produce. Just giving money away does not produce anything.

Kitzy Gemtail But if there is nothing to buy the things from then what does it matter? You can't consume what you don't produce. Giving people more money is not going to increase production.

Biscuit Eater Giving people money does not increase the supply of goods and services. If you give people money for not producing anything then you do not have more goods to sell. Here is an example. You give poor people money for food. They go to the grocery store. Sure there is food there, but a limited amount. Now say there is enough for everyone, they still have to buy it. They go to the checkout aisle and there is a limited amount of workers. So those workers are too busy checking customers out instead of re-stocking shelves so customers have limited food. Or customers have to wait longer in lines which means they have less time to work on something else. With increase demand and increase work for workers the business owner will probably have to pay more which means higher prices. All of this because of limited supply. Do you think that goods and services are just sitting there and magically appear but there is no one to buy them until we give them money?

charlidog2 But why would someone want to work for them when the government is giving them money? That is the other issue.

charlidog2 Jobs are not that tight, people just need to develop skills. Walmart pays above the min. wage in reality. The Walton Family has a lot of wealth because they own half of Walmart. Wealth does not equal income.
