Tyler, leftist honestly believe that the government can lower healthcare prices through negotiation. However, when you look at the student loan program and college tuition I beg to differ.

Prevention care can be done by just remaining healthy through healthy habits. The problem with universal healthcare is that situations like MRIs that can find severe situations will be rationed. That is why in the UK you had people dying from what were diagnosed as headaches but ended up being tumors. MRIs are specialized and rationed. As far as having the science to cure diseases, diseases evolve. It requires constant research keep the drugs up to date. The science is there because our system promotes it. Universal healthcare systems don't.

Mike, how do you make money off of dead customers?
2
Get rid of the payroll tax and businesses will stop paying benefits and pay with a higher wage instead.
2
Some math for you Defense spending GDP: 3.2% Healthcare spending GDP: Around 17% 17>3.2 Now tell me how will cutting defense pay for healthcare?
2
Some of that 30% goes towards lowering prices such as disease awareness and fraud prevention. Companies invest money to save money.

Jebus, people literally die in the streets in traffic accidents. Should we ban driving?
1
Dennis, losing your license for life is extreme. Accidents happen. Also, you get into a legal mess in that situation as who caused the accident? It won't work. As for engineering cars and roads to be better you have a couple problems. One, in doing that you will have to do mass construction which will bring down our economy. Next, we lack engineers. Same as with healthcare where we lack doctors and nurses. A big barrier in issues such as healthcare and infrastructure is that we lack skilled workers to produce it. This is why socialism on the large scale does not work, you have to push people to take on skilled jobs.

ANony Mouse, people rioted in the US over Obamacare as it was pushing for government take over of healthcare. It is a culture issue. Many people in the US do not want single payer.

I agree that the US healthcare system has problems. The problems stem from the federal government. Adding more government will make matters worse.

Gustav, your viewpoint on research is poor. Government funds for broad topics in medical research. What I do is listed under medical research. However no drug will be produced from my lab ever. What happens is that numerous labs produce a lot of information and drug companies take what is important and produces the high quality drugs. So private companies is what produces the drugs we need, not government.

"Btw: paying for other people's health care is how insurance works. Insurance is cost sharing." Not true. Insurance is designed for unplanned, expensive situations. Take home owner insurance, it pays if your house is robbed or burns down. It does not pay for new carpeting or a new window. The problem is that healthcare insurance has become healthcare. People cannot choose their own plan and force companies and providers to compete. A reason why is because so many people get paid with insurance.

"Quite the contrary, universal healthcare would increase innovation and entrepreneurship. " How so? There is no profit motive. Intelligent people do not like working in the government. " The current employer-based healthcare system encourages people to join large companies rather than starting an innovative startup." I agree. To remove that remove the payroll tax. Companies will pay with a higher wage as opposed to with healthcare. "Finland, Singapore and many other countries have very high-levels of innovation in healthcare." Not as high as the US.

"-Yes, and then sharing the cost. And it IS ABSOLUTELY true, that you share the cost of healthcare." Again, not true. Look at car insurance. Why doesn't it pay for my oil changes? Why doesn't home owner's insurance pay for new shingles on my roof? Because those are not unplanned nor expensive compared to a tree falling on my home or a car accident. ". You're doing it right now. You pay for people who don't have insurance!!!!!!! LOOK INTO IT DUDE! SERIOUSLY! You are ignorant about this." Look up the definition of insurance. You are ignorant on this. With insurance you may go through your entire life and never use it if it is there for unplanned, expensive situations only. I have yet to use my car insurance. "I hate these stupid analogies. Yes, we are advocating that people have universal healthcare for when unplanned, expensive treatment is necessary, not for when someone wants to get a face lift or a boob job" What about routine checkups? What about contraceptives? What about pregnancies? Those can all be planned out. I see you failed to mention those services.

aaron, that is not true.

Ace Diamonds, 54 billion dollars is a drop in the bucket compared to overall GDP. Healthcare is 1/6 of GDP. Please learn math.
