tetsubo57 You have to learn about the structure of the government to support state rights. The federal government is there for two things, deal with foreign affairs and give US citizens the ability to control governments with broad entitled rights protected by the federal government. Those rights doesn't give the federal government the potential to gain power over the people and they are broad in that the cover everyone. Everything else is to be left up to the states. The idea was that you have government but the people have control over it. It was to establish a checks and balance system of powers. An issue like marriage is a state issue. The federal government can't involved in marriage for three, reasons. One, it give the federal government the potential to gain power over the people, two, it isn't a broad right that covers everyone fairly, and three, it doesn't give the people the ability to control the government. Unfortunately the fed. have become involved in marriage and look at the mess. People cry marriage equality and I feel that why should married people get certain benefits over single people? Issues like that need to be left up to the states. So while you feel a state may be full of bigots you can't remove the checks and balances of powers that we have just because of a state that may be on the other side of the country treats it's people unfairly according to you. As long as they are not losing their federal protected rights then they are fine.

tetsubo57 Marriage isn't a right. It isn't a right at the federal level because it doesn't give US citizens the ability to control the governments and also it give the federal government the potential to have power over the people. Gay people can complain all they want but there is not a single right they are losing. If they want gay marriage then establish it as the state level or move to a state that allows it. And yes, I think there should not be any federal laws pertaining to marriage. State rights are important to this country and a reason why we are in the mess we are is because we have gotten away from them.

tetsubo57 Where is marriage a right? I am still lost in that. You have to look at what rights the federal government protects. They are rights used to control the governments. Also, those rights can not potentially give the federal government power over the people. Thus the federal government should not be involved in marriage, even though it is unfortunately is. While you may feel that states are being bigots gays do have the option of moving. They also have the option of voting and expressing their opinions via free speech and press. Also, I can easily argue that the government shouldn't be involved in marriage to begin with. I mean, why do they get certain tax benefits when the single don't?

tetsubo57 There are certain rights that everyone is entitled to. Those rights that are protected by the federal government are rights people can use to control the governments. At the same time they are not rights the federal government can use to potentially gain in power. I support state rights because I support a checks and balance system of powers. It seems to me that people who support a more centralize government one, trusts it way too much, and two, feel that everyone else is dumber then them and they should live a certain life, or in short, a fascist.
