This chart is not clear. What defines "middle class" and "working class"? Isn't the middle class working as well? There are other factors in play here. You need to consider that those on top have seen their net worth increase because they are the ones investing or becoming skill in technology. This is called Skilled Bias Technological Change. That doesn't mean they are the only one who benefits. What they do increases productivity which means better goods and services for all at a lower price. Another factor is that college enrollment has increased 37% from 2000 to 2010. People are willing to take a few steps back before they go forward. College students can account for the "lower class" or "working class". I earn $22,000 as a grad student. That puts me in the 58th percentile which I assume to be "working class". Of course my wealth is low because I rent, I don't have a car. I choose to pursue graduate studies so I can get in the 10% later. So this isn't scary when you consider other factors.

"Capitalism isn't to produce better goods and services, it's to produce goods and services that need to be replaced as soon as possible" It produces goods and services that people demand which are usually better. "Productivity isn't promoted in the US," Yes it is. "this is why all products are made in cheaper countries and sold back at first world nations. " Those jobs are low skilled and pretty much archaic in a developed nation. Instead of pushing for low skilled jobs we need to push people to higher skill jobs. "The poor nations have much higher productivity." 100% not true. We are top 5 in the world as is. "The chances of you reaching the 10% solely off a college tuition is rare." With my degree it isn't. " You have to think outside the box and be a smart hustler to reach the 10%. Nothing in college will teach you that." Depends on the degree.

Investment by the top do benefit the middle class. " Also, you are assuming college students have the same upward mobility they used to" They do if you get the right degree. "Most are finishing college with extensive debt." Which means nothing if you get the right degree. " Many will start out owing the equivalent of buying a house in student loan debt." I didn't know a house cost only $37,000.

Another factor not mentioned is that is this including families or individuals? Someone earning say $5000 a year but living with a spouse earning $80,000 a year is not in a bad situation.

I really don't know, it isn't clear. That is why I am not taking these numbers seriously.

Bernie solution to narrow the wealth gap is the destroy the economy. Now everyone will equally be poor.
