All Bernie did was promise to spend other people's money. Anyone can do that. People need to ask Bernie this. Who will provide healthcare and college to all when we lack doctors, nurses, surgeons, researchers, professors, TAs, tutors and other skilled workers? When you ask that you will not get an answer.
20
Explain to me how Bernie would have provided healthcare and college for all? As is we lack doctors, nurses, researchers, surgeons, professors, TAs, tutors and other skilled workers in the field. Tell me how do you provide those things when we lack the man power to do so?
5
Ghostowl657 How do you increase the supply if the workers do not exist?
3
Ghostowl657 You are increasing salaries thus you are making it more expensive. Also, the pay of a professor is pretty high as is, money is not an issue. The issue is that there are not many people to do it. And who sets the qualifications and why?
3
Ghostowl657 I am pursuing my PhD in physical chemistry. Schools are upping enrollment for money. If you make college tuition free they will do that even more.
3
Ghostowl657 And with state run schools there are some schools that get more money the more students they have. They will allow anyone in just to get more money.
3
Martin Kortner Earning a doctorate is intense. Problem is people do not want to do it, especially Bernie supporters.
2
MrSageOlorin You are not understanding the issue. I never said pay, I said provide. All the tax dollars in the world means nothing if you do not have the people to provide the actual services. So what are you going to do? Are you going to tell current doctors, nurses, professors, TAs etc. to work harder? Or are you going to lower the quality?
2
Who is going to provide "free healthcare" and "free college"? We lack doctors, nurses, surgeons, researcher, professors, TAs, tutors and other skilled workers. How are you going to provide those services when they simply do not exist? That is where the barrier is. Bernie and his supporters just want to raise taxes without realizing that if the goods and services do not exist, it does not matter how much you raise taxes. You can't provide.
2
No Save Points Money is not an issue because those degrees lead to a high paying job. You can pull out a loan and obtain it. The issue is that people do not want to put in the work.
2
No Save Points Sometimes in life you have to take steps back before you can move forward. That happens. If you earn a STEM degree your degree will never be worthless.
2
Bush did not destroy the economy. Recessions happen for several reasons. How we recover is key. Obama and the democrats supported the bailouts (so did Bush, to be fair, but he was against a democrat congress) which hindered recovery. That is what caused problems.
2
Ghostowl657 Because you will be increasing the demand for college without increasing the supply thus either increasing the cost or lowering the quality. Right now my university is doing both.
2
DJRAKKK Books cost a lot because of one time sell. How many used books to you have? I have a lot. When you sell an item once you want your money's worth.
1
Martin Kortner That did not answer the question. Where are the skilled workers going to come from? Right now we lack them.
1
Teg Teg We lack skilled workers in the STEM fields.
1
Margaret Garbincus A Masters in what? Also, I am getting my PhD paid for like a lot of grad students do in STEM fields. Seems like you went after the wrong field.
1
Margaret Garbincus He has not been crystal clear. It isn't about paying for them, it is about providing them. We lack the workers in those fields. All the money in the world is not going to increase the number of skilled workers.
1
Ei’ríġ Proinsias Dammantaċ Ó Gamhna. Defense spending is small in the US as in less than 4% of our GDP. But, it still does not answer the question. We lack skilled workers. Where are the workers going to come from?
1
No Save Points Not really. A doctorate in the STEM fields is worth a lot. Money is not the issue. The problem is that it takes a lot of work people are not willing to do. And why would you when Bernie is also going to promise you a living wage free healthcare retirement sick days maternity leave vacation time And so on. There will be no desire to take on the stress to earn a doctorate, or at least a masters.
1
spainman2020 You have passion until you see the work involved to earn those degrees. In the end people will take the easy way out.
1
Ei’ríġ Proinsias Dammantaċ Ó Gamhna. Nice rebuttal.
1
No Save Points Um, no. There are not so many positions. There is so much scientific research we can do.
1
No Save Points We are always developing new wealth. Also, wealth does not equal income.
1
parker amaker It is more likely that your friends dropped out of med school because they could not handle it. The income you earn after you go through med school is high so loans are not an issue. So I find your story to be bogus. Other developed countries restrict people from going to college they feel are not worthy. So if the government feels are you not college material they will not allow you to go in some way. So Bernie's plan is nothing like what other countries do.
1
you're right It is less than 4% of our GDP. That is small.
1
you're right As a whole we spend more on education and welfare programs.
1
you're right A lot of skilled workers work in the military.
1
you're right Trillions of dollars? Really? Do you even know what our budget is?
1
parker amaker" The old school republican notion that liberals are lazy and incompetent goes against the fact that millennials more educated than the generation before them " Define "educated". Having a gender studies or a history degree means nothing. Let me ask you about Bernie's plan. We lack doctors, nurses, pharmacists, researcher, professors, TAs, tutors and other skilled workers in healthcare an college. How do we provide those services to people when we lack skill workers in those fields? Also, where is the incentive to develop such skills when Bernie is promising people that no matter what job they work they will always have a living wage healthcare retirement vacation time sick days paternity leave And other benefits? Heck, why should I go through the stress of getting a PhD when I can work at McDonalds and be fine?
1
you're right What is there to answer? I saw nothing but a string of crap. I want a better America. I am asking how is Bernie's policies going to work when we do not have the skilled workers to provide them?
1
Bernie owns three homes. He is not middle class.
1
k3v1n47 He bought a home that was over 300% higher than the median home price of Vermont. Bernie is what he is, an opportunist. He does no care about you.
1
k3v1n47 I heard it all. Fact is Bernie ran an entire campaign on wealth and income inequality but owns three homes. Over 30% of people do not own the living quarters they live in. He owns three. All he cares about is himself. It is easy to sit in office for decades spending other people's money.
1
k3v1n47 I am not saying give it all up, but he should not own more than his "fair share" of homes. So many have so little, but yet he has so much. How is that fair? The Walton family has so much wealth, so what? Why does Bernie hate them so much? Because they create job? How many jobs has Bernie created? All he cares about is himself. He is a career politician that only cares about winning to get into office. Anyone can promise to give away other people's money. What book should I read? Mein Kempf or Communist Manefesto?
1
k3v1n47 Yes, we live in a capitalist society. So Bernie should not complain about wealth and income inequality himself. But yet he ran his entire campaign on it. The Walton family run a business. Money in politics is another issue altogether. That is nothing more than a symptom of a disease. The disease is of a federal government with too much power. Bernie wants to give that same corrupt government the power to run your healthcare, education and money with higher taxes. You told me to read a book but yet did not say which one.
1
k3v1n47 If we live in a capitalist society is debatable. We have a lot of cronyism that goes on. So you are denying Bernie ran a campaign off of wealth and income inequality? What are you even talking about with the Walton family? How am I dumb? I can see why Bernie lost. You are a clear representation of his voting base.
1
thewanderandhiscomp Ok, what?
1
Bernie was an independent until he decided to run for president. At that point he became a democrat mainly to sabotage the party.
1
Masau Fuku It isn't that the skilled workers will drop. It is that we lack them right now. Throwing more money at the situation is not going to increase the number of skilled workers.
1
***** True. I try to approach them in an intelligent way but I keep forgetting I am dealing with children.
1
Ghostowl657 Other countries face just as many problems, if not more than the US. The whole "It works in European countries" is a childish argument that ignores so many other factors.
1
Ghostowl657 Let us look at healthcare for example. https://www.aei.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/-the-business-of-health_110115929760.pdf
1
***** Our military budget is not that high. It only makes up less than 4% of our GDP.
1
dumbassmoron I makes perfect sense. We lack skilled workers because we do not have people trained in those areas. In my university, for example, we lack TAs and are basically putting warm bodies in place to "teach" the course. The students do not learn anything.
1
refink33 Look at percent of GDP.
1
***** Uh, what?
