  1. One bit of irony is that a major part of research in solar cells involve the lanthanides. We can't mine them though because environmental regulations prevent new mines from being opened. Thus we can't access them to do more research, and current research is expensive. Basically, all these "save the planet" hippies are standing in the way of progress they support.

  2. Therrydicule We have mines in my state as well, but it takes years to build them.  The mines in CA have been around for years.
