Andrew Brovan, Seattle is a poor example. Look at the top employers of Seattle. http://www.edc-seaking.org/service/economic-data/economic-basics They are companies that pay well. A lot of cities have government agencies as their top employers. Seattle has a booming economy because of their many private tech jobs. A higher min. wage was going to have little effect on their economy.

Look at the top employers for Seattle http://www.edc-seaking.org/service/economic-data/economic-basics Only three are government (and the University of Washington is still highly skilled). They are jobs that pay well to begin with. Seattle also has an unemployment rate around 3.9%. Now look at Chicago https://www.metromba.com/2016/03/top-employers-chicago-metro/ First four are all government. Chicago has an unemployment rate of close to 6%. Fact is that Seattle has high paying jobs to begin with and thus a lot of income. They can get away with a higher min. wage. Other places can't. There is a lot to economics, I suggest you look into it a little more.

Teen Wolf90, you are right. Seattle has a lot of private companies that pay well stationed there which is why they are growing. Just look at their top employers.

Because a "livable wage" is subjective. Also, you are paid based on what you produce.

" Again, it will boost the economy, help businesses make more money, " It will help them make more money by forcing them to spend more money? That makes zero sense.

"Look at California and other states " CA has the highest Gini coefficient in the US and they lack jobs for low skilled workers.

" However many of these jobs would pay them about $5 an hour, and they would have no sick time or vacation time. " Only around 3% of workers earn at or below the min. wage. The average hourly earnings is around $24/hr. Businesses already pay more and many offer sick days and vacation.

"Never once since the first time minimum wage was first raised in the 1930s was there a loss of jobs as a result. " That is not true.
