  2. Salary is the best type of pay.  I got paid on salary and when work was easy at times it was great.  I could have gotten my work done in 2 hours and got paid the same as if I got my work done in 6 hours.

The bare minimum for the price of labor is how much capital you create.  If you work a job stocking shelves or running a cash register then you are not creating that much capital compared to if you are working a job managing a business or investing money. Plus, define a "living wage."  I work a min. wage job.  It is supplemental income for me because my actual job pays me more.  My girlfriend works a min. wage job but is able to pay off her college loan due to her living with me and I am the main earner of the household.  You are paid based on what you produce, not what your living demands are.

All OT pay does is prevents people from working more than 40 hours if they want too.  Considering how, on average, workers work 34 hours a week it is safe to say that if someone wants too they would work less if they can afford it.  So why do we prevent people who want to work more from working more?  This is just like min. wage.  You prevent people with low skills from getting jobs.  Just love how liberals continue to attack the middle and lower class.

  6. ***** Where is the money going to come from?  What creates capital, or economic growth, is investments.  If you invest in something more than it is worth then you lose money.   So if a business invests too much money in labor then they will go under.  Force businesses to do it all together then the economy suffer. What would happen if the government passed a law increasing rent?  Renters will have less money to invest in themselves and grow.  Same holds true for businesses.  If a business cuts profits to simply pay a worker more then they are worth then that business won't grow meaning less job growth and less production.

Watch six minutes of this video and had to stop.  Democrats support donors as well as in union donors.  https://www.opensecrets.org/overview/topcontribs.php I thought I read somewhere that TYT had unpaid interns?  Can't really say if it is true or not but wouldn't be surprise.  OT laws prevent people from working more who want to.  The average work week is 34 hours a week in the US, people who can afford to work less do.  And redistribution of the wealth is a slogan that is impossible to do.  You have to create wealth.  Put it this way, you and I get a house of the same value.  After 20 years if I take good care of it, mow the lawn, keep it clean, and you end up getting 4 cats, don't mow the lawn, let it die, walk around in muddy shoes, etc. then whose house is worth more?  Now who has more wealth?  Overtime wealth changes.  Redistribution of the wealth is impossible. Liberals and Cenk continue to show their stupidity.

  8. Anthony Landrum You get to the top by being better than the person next to you.  Sometimes that involves working very hard for not very much.  Why do you think we have unpaid interns?  Because those people are willing to work very hard for very little to move up and better their situation.

DrunkVegan Unpaid interns work 20 hours for free to move up.  I was willing to work hours no one was willing to work and it allowed me to get a raise and job security.  You get to the top by working harder than the person next to you.  Whenever someone is better off than you the reason is because they worked that much harder than you.

  10. smarhaus Boo hoo.  It is a competitive world out there.  I personally hate it knowing that I don't have the option of working more hours.  Picking up a second job isn't that easy (even though I have two, and sometimes three myself).  A reason why your company laid you off is because one, you simply weren't that good of a worker, or two due to regulations it was too expensive to keep you.  The company my dad worked at closed, he picked up a job that pays $26/hr starting off, he is getting paid more now.  He had a lot of experience and they went after him.  This idea of "worker's rights" and "redistribution of the wealth" is what is killing jobs.  It makes it too hard to hire people. Plus, as I mentioned before, redistribution of the wealth is impossible.  You have to create wealth.  I showed that with my house example.  61% of an average family's net worth is in their home.  A homeowner has 30 times more wealth than a renter. Is it because a homeowner is oppressive to renters?  No, because beyond owning a home people don't have much wealth, but they can still have a nice income.  In order to have wealth redistribution you will have to start giving people Walmarts.  And considering how around 50% of small businesses fail within the first 5 years it is safe to say that in 5 years some Walmarts will do well and others will fail leading to more wealth redistribution.  You have to create wealth somewhere, and in order for wealth redistribution to take place the government has to "trickle down" that wealth to people who didn't create that wealth, and they have to do it constantly.

  11. smarhaus You are refusing to explain how I am factually wrong because you don't know what you are talking about.  Taxes and regulations are at an all time high.  With increase taxes and regulations that means less profits which means less growth, jobs and productions.  It also increases the risk of hiring people.  Chances are that you were not that good of a worker and it became too risky/expensive to keep you on board due to an increase tax/regulation so they end up letting you go.  Businesses want people to have jobs to keep the economy strong to invest in. At the same time if it is not worth hiring someone then they won't do it.  Their profits are increasing due to wise investments.  Investing in a worker that isn't worth the risk or has them lose money isn't going to help.

DrunkVegan If you look at tax revenue as percent of GDP it is a little over 16% and projected to rise (with the increase of the FICA tax) going into effect.  It is projected to rise to close to 19%.  Now it has been has high as 20.9% (during WWII) 19% is still high and isn't the all time low.  During the golden years of growth only a few times have tax revenue reach 19%, most of the time it was under 18%. The bigger issue is that we have a high corporate tax rate and in order for companies to avoid them they have to move out of the country to use loopholes. We shouldn't have a corporate tax rate at all because if it becomes too expensive a company will just charge the customer more or do business elsewhere leading to more job loss.  Corporate taxes are less than 2% of tax revenue.  Removing them will create jobs and increase revenue leading to more tax revenue and GDP growth.

Anthony Landrum What you described is hard work.  Working for free as an intern is building connections.  Instead of taking a job that pays (as in a min. wage job) you volunteer and you sell yourself.  I did unpaid work and it is paying off now. For small companies you can do volunteer unpaid work or go above and beyond what is expected and the worse it would do is build job security.  For a major corporation you can take over a management position and earn more and have more freedom and job security and if they don't pay you well in the end you can always quit. Throughout my life it was always the ones that worked hard that had no problem getting a job and doing well and the irresponsible and lazy ones were the ones that struggled.  Creating policies that keep people down is going to make things worse.

Productivity is up because of technology.  Skilled jobs have become more productive and made the job of low skill jobs easier.  Also because of an increase of productivity goods and services become cheaper.  Look how people in poverty own TVs and cars.  People have seen the benefits.  Just because a restaurant gives you a cash register that has more computing power than Apollo 11 doesn't mean you should get a raise.

David Ludwig You get paid based on the amount of capital you produce, it doesn't matter if it is hourly or salary.  If I get paid a set salary then my task has me producing that much capital.  If I complete it in 2 hours or 6 hours then it doesn't matter, I got produced that much capital for that particular company.  It isn't milking the system.  One reason why highly skilled jobs saw their salary increase over time is because of technology.  They found a way to produce more capital.  So a job they could do in 6 hours now takes 2 and those other 4 hours the do something else.  They create more capital and thus get more money. If I find a way to finish a job in less time I can either enjoy the time off or do more but I will ask for more money as a result.
