  1. They failed because of two reasons 1. They have become too radical 2. They have too many established members Those issues go together. But mainly when Gore lost to Bush the democrats were not happy. So they became made and when they had power the promoted radicals such as Pelosi, Reid and Obama in prestige positions. Come 2016 they continued to push Clinton and Bernie dragged the group even farther left. Independents and moderates are not going to support radicals like that. If the democrats want to win they have to become moderate real quick.
