Universities do lean left way too much. The reasoning, though, is that those who are typically intelligent and can use their degree to full strength end up in the private sector to make money. Those that don't work in academics and end up having to beg for money because the reality is that they are not that intelligent, which exists with the political left. Those that can't do teach.

"Survey showed correlation with education and voting democrate" Not really true. But there is a correlation between higher income and voting republican. Higher income usually means higher intelligence. Also, those who are high school drop outs do typically vote democrat.

I teach science, I am a doctorate candidate in physical chemistry, I vote republican and despise the democratic party these days.

" Any PHD can find work in a drug company or the private sector easily" Not really. Many companies avoid hiring too many doctorates because they say they are "over qualified". There is that mixed in with the fact that if you put a bunch of them in a room together all they do is argue and get nothing done. I am currently a graduate student working on my PhD and I see that all the time. They are not very productive and many just end up fighting for tenure and then coasting it in.

ufutz, education can either the best thing you offer to someone or the worse. It can be great if it is done right as in teaching problem solving skills and creativity. StreakyBaconMan, the economy perfomed well under Reagan. Since WWII the economy suffered the worse under Carter and Obama. Now there is more to it than that but hat is a fact. But on payment, in a free market people will get paid more. Democrats created the payroll tax which led to lower wages. The economy was OK under him " He had strong economic growth.

Very true. Liberals spend their entire career in academics and than make a living teaching young, highly influential minds to try to get them to think like them. Also, those young minds are less likely to question a professor.

blazeofglory2712, what you said about Catholic schools is true, and ironic. The whole creationism vs evolution debate only exists in private schools. Looking at the curriculum at the catholic private schools in my state they teach evolution in science. Many public schools don't.

A couple ways. One, my business admin. teacher went on a rant about climate change one time but none of it was on the test. As a scientist myself I was a little disturbed about how he was presenting it from a very left wing view point. Other professors post things outside of their doors that are very left leaning and there are plenty of safe spaces for groups typically protected by the left. But I get yelled at for having the inauguration running on my computer in my research lab just because people did not like Trump. Politics get brought up a lot by professors and they have a liberal bias.

Terri, I have several friends who are doctorate in the science field who lean right. As a whole, in academics they do lean left, but it also more or less depends on the department and where the university is at. In the midwest you will find more conservative professors, especially in the STEM fields and business fields, fields that do require more critical thinking and problem solving. To answer you questions Climate change: I despise the political left's stance on it. They misrepresent science to create more excuses to expand the government and create more taxes and regulations. We should continue doing research in it and progressing in technology, but we should get politics out of the issue. This is why I side with republicans. Under Bush funding for science research went up. The republican's stance is clear, they support science, they just want to leave it to the scientist. As Neil deGrasse Tyson said, no republican wants to die poor. In order to generate wealth we need technology to advance, thus they support science. EPA: Before the EPA air quality was improving The EPA is nothing more than added layers of bureaucracy and federal government overreach. We should really dismantle it. Abortion: This is not really an issue involving science. If you want to go that route than once can say that life starts at conception. By definition a sack of cells are living. As a whole I don't have a stance abortion besides it should be a state law Stem cell research: I support it and it is legal. All Bush said was that federal funds won't fund it. I support that as well but that is more of me supporting state rights. If you really understood republicans you will see that they support science. If there really is an anti-science party it is the democrats for them politicizing it. Republicans say what they do to appeal to the religious fundamentalists that vote for them, just like Obama, in facing a tough re-election in 2008 said he supported gay marriage (even though he has never done anything for the gay community). He said that to appeal to the gay vote. That's politics. Navigate that and you will see many different things.

Lisa, I am a doctorate candidate in physical chemistry. I do see academics leaning left, but I see it with people who are myopic and can't do anything else outside of their own bubble (academics). It is actually one of the most irritating thing in academics in how someone with a doctorate can be so close minded.

8Taliz, climate change is happening and has been for over 4 billion years. The issues regarding climate change are 1. How much is man playing a role 2. What is going to happen as in is it even bad? Very few deny climate change as people on both sides know it is happening. The problem is that the scientific illiterate left is making the claim that the world is on fire and we need to tax and regulate more in order to stop climate change......which has been happening for over 4 billion years. On evolution I feel you don't understand it at all. A driving force in evolution is climate change. I see some irony how you bring both of those points up. Please name some more examples. Liberals feel there are 37 different types of sexes for that GMO's are bad.
