Compare to FL to CA, both states did a different approach, are basically equal in population density, weather, etc. and ended up with similar results.

@ashyhusky4130 we are adults. If you want to hide in fear you have that right. Others are going to live life. Government cannot protect you from all dangers in life, you need to take care of yourself and not expect government to do it for you.

erin smith true, FL does have an older population which adds to my argument that one, there are so many variables and two, do the lockdowns and masks every work? Comparing the two states of FL and CA and the death rate difference is less than 100? Now consider how many people who suffered because of the lockdowns and bad economy.

@American Pie do you know how per capita works? And via known cases the average death rate is 1.7%, SD is at 1.6%, so they are beating the US average. And again, that is of known cases.

@Mytro8533 to start, we are talking about putting others in danger. A seat belt is to keep me safe. Next, there comes a limit. This is studied in economics all the time. In driving there are 40,000 who die a year in the US due to traffic accidents. Capping speed limits to 15 MPH will make that number to be zero. But the drawback is that productivity will drop a lot doing more damage. Same with this virus. Shutting down the economy and businesses may have slowed down the spread (no evidence that it does), but think about how many lost their businesses and jobs now.

FL and CA are very similar all around as states, had different approaches towards this virus but ended up with similar results. So it begs the question if lockdowns even work.

In cases you are correct, ND and SD are at the top, but that goes to show that they also have a higher survival rate. Also, both ND and SD have flattened their curves. Their active cases are low.

@joepenfield they are similar. In the US it is around 1500 per million. When you are talking about a difference of less than 100 when you have numbers in the thousands, that is similar. Again, do you know how statistics work?

@joepenfield doing a quick calculation the standard deviation in the US of deaths per million is around 500. So a difference of less than 100 between two states is nothing.

High case count but also a high recovery rate. Also, their active cases are now around 1/10 compared to their peak. Them, and ND have literally flatten the curve and beat covid. We should follow what she did to get out of covid.

Several flaws here. On, she, herself, cannot do that. You have different branches of government. Next, how far are you willing to go with the "saving my life"? Why not force people to wear helmets? Also, in seat belt laws, like all laws, it took an act of congress, many elected officials working on it and there is a reason why seat belt laws exist. It isn't so much to protect you. It is that in all 50 states car insurance is required and a part of keeping car insurance cost low is to require seat belts to be worn. It isn't arbitrary as say shutting down businesses due to a virus.

SD is 8th in deaths per capita. Also, they have seen the largest decline in active cases where other states haven't seen a decline in active cases yet. In all, SD did it right, they are done with covid.

However, SD has seen their active cases drop down to 1/10 of their peak and they are at where they were in August where other states are just starting to see a drop in active cases. In all SD beat covid. They can live life while other states are still arguing if kids can go back to school.

@garydunn3868 SD is 8th in death per capita. Their death rate, of known cases, is 1.6% where the US average if 1.7%. SD has done very well. They did have advantages? Sure, but they also have disadvantages such as limited access to healthcare like a lot of rural places face. There are some places where people will have to drive over an hour to get to a hospital where in a state like NY they have quick access. I live in an urban area, I am within 20 minute walking distant of two hospitals. A rural town has no hospitals and have to drive an hour to get to the city.

Actually, "life" is not mentioned in the Constitution. And a "right to life" simply means government cannot take life away without due process. Also, states have seen varying results with the virus. FL and CA are, for all intents and purposes, are very similar overall and ended up with similar results of covid. CA shut down, FL did not.

Just like FL and CA have similar results where FL ended their lockdowns, CA didn't. There are several reasons for the death rate. SD has the highest cases per capita, but a survival rate that is above the national average. Also, their active cases are now down to where they were before their spike where other states are now just seeing a drop. That means they reached herd immunity with a low death rate and not destroying their economy.

@Syrnian SD has seen their active case numbers drop the most. They are now back to their numbers they had in the summer after a spike. In all, SD beat the virus. Even with high cases their death rate is low. They are first in case per capita but 8th in death meaning that they had a high survival rate and also let the virus run its course and they are done.

@American Pie here is an issue to consider, access to healthcare. Many people in rural areas have very limited access to healthcare. I live in a city, I lie within a 20 minute walking distant from 2 hospitals. Now compared that to a time where my dad, who lives in a rural area, had to travel 45 minutes to the hospital for heart problems. So even at that SD had a high survival rate.

No, it was actually great what we did. We have now seen what works and what doesn't. We are seeing that the lockdowns do not work and we need to open back up. However, some states are still refusing to open up schools.

The issue is that the media never grills the left on these issues like these. If Noem was a democrat the media will be praising her as her state literally beat covid. Look at the active cases, they are low in SD where other states are now just seeing a decline. Yes, they are 8th in deaths per capita, but they are 1 in cases per capita. What does that mean? It means they have a high survival rate and they beat covid. They have herd immunity.
