How is capitalism oppressive?
3
@Tiredofthecensorship189 so market economies with low corporate taxes?
1
We are experiencing socialism now with massive giveaways. That is why inflation is going up. People are being paid not to work
1
@Tiredofthecensorship189 most of those programs like schools are funded locally
1
@Tiredofthecensorship189 they are localized programs. You say socialism works from the ground up. Ok, yes. I would agree, and that would mean being as local as possible. At the federal level would be top down that you are talking about. But at the local level you have more control over how the program is ran. Ultimately, what you want is to give people as much control as possible in how the system functions. If the local community want to do it via some sort of government then fine. If they want it via the free market then fine. But the overall consistent thing is to give people the freedom to decide, not have some top down force from the federal government. Also, "trickle down economics" is not an actual economic term.

@strifedivine you can't tie inflation to the min. wage. In many ways the min. wage has gone up a lot. One, very few work the min. wage. Next, those that do work part time. Finally, you have to consider other factors as well such as what method of inflation? CPI, PCE, GDP deflator? And consider technology improvements. In the 1980s who owned cell phones? Now almost everyone have smart phones that have more computing power than what put a man on the moon. Economics is complex. " If a company can't afford to pay a livable wage to its employees that company shouldn't be operating in the first place." One, define a "living wage". Two, if someone cannot justify earning a higher wage they should not exist in the first place. How about that?
1
@strifedivine you know what also makes prices go down? Higher productivity. We are seeing inflation go up this year because people are not producing, period. You complain about the min. wage when if more people produced prices will go down.
1
@strifedivine what you said about the min. wage is not true. One, what method of inflation? Next, what year are you starting from? Finally, what about the shortcomings of inflation? What could you buy for $15 now compared to 30 years ago?

Imagine getting free things is popular. Too bad socialism does not work
1
The key is a balance.
1
Socialism is bad. it has never worked. Capitalism has led to the most wealth for all.
1
@djtoxicdhg how so?
1
@LittleAl016 wealth inequality is not really a bad thing.
1
@LittleAl016 no it isn't. For example, I have negative wealth. Why? Because I have a college loan, credit card loan, and a car loan. Why? Because we are a society where we are willing to take a risk on someone and loan them out money so they can make big purchases trusting they can pay it back. I have negative wealth but I have a college education and a nice car. Also, just because someone is rich does not mean you are poor.
1
@LittleAl016 how am I poor? I have a nice car. I have a college education and I am less than a month away from getting a PhD. I am doing very well. I have my own apartment and food to eat. Loans are not given out to people who cannot pay it back. That would be giving away money.
1
@LittleAl016 that does not mean I am poor. It actually means I am well off. It is because I have a steady form of income and good credit to get a loan. Again, I have a nice car. I am close to getting a PhD. I have my own apartment. People who give out loans expect them to be paid back. When I bought my car the bank gave me a loan. In doing so they expect me to pay it back. If I don't the bank loses money. So why would the bank just give me money? Your logic on loans is highly flawed. So you are saying I do not have to pay back my loans?
1
@LittleAl016 uh, loans are there for several reasons. One is for emergencies. That is what my credit card was for. I ran into an emergency, but my credit score is high enough to where I have enough of a limit to get out. Another is for large purchases. It would take years for people to save up to buy a car or a home. Or they can pull out a loan and pay it off. Banks loan practices are not predatory. Banks do not give out loans to risky people. But again, are you saying I do not have to pay back my loans?
1
@LittleAl016 also, my ability to get a loan is based on credit history. My credit history is so strong because I pay my bills on time because I am not poor. So yes, me having loans, negative wealth, is a good thing. It means I can pay off bills, that are of low amount. And thus, I can pull out a loan to buy a big purchase. My car is $10,000 overall. For me to save up that would take years with my current income. Or I can pull out the loan and pay it off. So I can have the car now.
1
@LittleAl016 let me ask you, how do you suggest people buy cars then? Or homes?
1
True. And of those who do, how do they feel? I have college debt. But I am in line to make over 6 figures a year soon and will pay it off quickly.
1
@brothersandsistersofvalhalla neither, explain to me how allowing people to interact within the free market as they please is oppressive.
1
@brothersandsistersofvalhalla in the past few decades we have seen a shift away from capitalism and the free market. Creation of programs like Medicare and Medicaid, the department of education, the expansion on the tax code, etc. If you point to a lot of our shortcomings it is from the creation of those federal programs.
1
@brothersandsistersofvalhalla over 90% of funding for education is state and local.
1
@LittleAl016 monopolies happen due to government action.
1
@LittleAl016 what? Government action causes monopolies. The free market takes them down. Remember when the left was complaining about Walmart? Eventually it switched to Amazon. Why? Because the free market in retail led to that.
1
@LittleAl016 those laws government create makes it more expensive for smaller competitors to enter the market. In a free market a smaller competitor can enter the market and grow.
1
@brothersandsistersofvalhalla thanks to the government.
1
@LittleAl016 no they don't.
