For day work week is more common than what people think in the US. Working 4 10s is becoming more common. When I worked for Amazon fulfillment center that were the hours, 4 10s and three days off.

@aaronhumphrey3514 exactly, and they have high suicide rates as well. A lot of this is culture base.
1
It is actually quite common in the US.
1
With higher cost of living. Also, it is a culture thing. In the US many work over 40 hours as week because they want to. You know, some people do enjoy their jobs.
1
@nedludd7622 their healthcare is inferior to the US in many ways. Also, their post secondary education is nowhere near as valuable as the US is.
1
@salomaogomes7311 people die in other nations due to lack of healthcare as well. Thousands of people is considered noise in a nation of millions. Some have argued that they are at risk of death to begin with.
1
@nedludd7622 never said America first. America does many things well. There is no ideal model.
1
One, people are not working more hours. Next, that increase in productivity have helped out the workers in better goods and services that are cheaper.
1
To be fair you create 4 10s. Also, it is a bit more complex. Some places simply can't do 4 10s.
1
The earning power of the average worker has gone up.
1
@henrygustav7948 yes. With productivity going up goods and services are getting better and more affordable.
1
@henrygustav7948 wages have arguably not been stagnant.
1
@henrygustav7948 arguably it has not.
1
@salomaogomes7311 no, there is a lot of data showing wages have gone up. Let me ask you this, how is it that people are able to afford computers, better TVs, cars, etc? Because of technological improvements. Goods and services are far better and affordable compared to today. Cars today last longer, get better gas mileage and are safer, all which saves money. Because of online shopping and delivery you can save money that way along with time. If wages have been stagnant how have the standard of living went up?
1
@henrygustav7948 that is not true. Look at FRED stats of unit labor cost, which is the hourly compensation over productivity. It is for most years meaning hourly compensation is outpacing productivity. Also, again, if wages were stagnant, how is it that the standard of living has improved across the board?
1
@salomaogomes7311 FRED stats. Look up FRED stats and unit labor cost. Has nothing to do with the min. wage.
1
@allhumansarejusthuman.5776 So a private company did it on their own?
1
It is a bit more complex. Going 4 10s is what a lot of companies do if they can. However, many can't. Many are open maybe 12 hours a day. So it makes scheduling complex. Or many have part time workers. As usual, there are man layers to it.
1
@N00bcrunch3r I know. What is your point? So do national lab. People love it.
