@joshuapowers4623 the reason why most issues are left up to the states is because basically all issues have a subjective and objective side to them. With leaving it to the states the people of those states can work out the subjective side on issues.
Using abortion as an example. Objectively it is killing a living thing. Don't give me the whole "clump of cells' argument, it is a living thing. Is it human? Well, many will say that early on, objectively, no. But many see it as a potential human and want to keep it alive. And in a subjective sense feel killing that living thing is wrong.
On the other hand, objectively, as in the case of this woman, many cannot afford to have a kid. So you end up with a kid in a poor household, or in foster care where that can, in many ways, harm society. And there are objective measures for that. And in a subjective sense many feel that placing that kid in that situation is worse off than aborting it.
There is a reason why political issues like abortion continue to have arguments. The are complex and there is the subjective part where there is no clear right or wrong answer.
As for rights, they are more or less limits on the government to give power to the people to challenge the government if needed. With abortion that is not the case. Same with murder, stealing, etc.
