@Spiral.Dynamics there are no such things as marriage rights, so you can start there. Next, marriage is a state issue. There is debate on whether government should be involved in marriage to begin with. And if so, in what ways? What about polygamy? Should they get the same marriage "rights" compared to a marriage between a man and woman? And if so, why? And again, we need to ask why those legal standards exist to begin with.

@Spiral.Dynamics to add, Glenn Beck has asked why is government involved with marriage to begin with in a response to gay marriage. To me, an actual progressive will ask that question when it comes to gay marriage, why is government involved in it to begin with? It seems to me that this is another example of the left wanting government to inject themselves in people's lives.

@Spiral.Dynamics where in the Constitution does it list marriage as a right? Nowhere, so it becomes a state issue. No different than driving. You do not have a right to drive. There are restrictions in getting a license. And what deflection did I make? You are saying there cities with their own laws and law enforcement, I agree. This proves my point in that in different parts of the area there are different laws. Same with marriage. As for polygamy, why is it illegal? Why can't someone have multiple spouses? This is not a smear on same sex marriage. It is showing that this issue is not black and white but actually complex and can be looked at in many angles. Again, starting point, why is government involved in marriage to begin with? We should start the discussion there. Instead you skip that which is why people bring up polygamy.

It seems like you want government highly involved in people's lives. If government was not involved in marriage to begin with than the gay marriage issue would cease to exist. And this is why I bring up polygamy.

@robertpresley1503 actually the Constitution addresses a lot of issues. It gives the limits and the roles of the federal government, which is deal with foreign affairs and commerce between states, and leaves everything else to the states and local government where they have to work within the confides of the Constitution. I support getting government out of marriage where marriage laws are local. But as of now it is involved in marriage, thus, why isn't polygamy recognized by governments?

@robertpresley1503 to be honest polygamy is arguably more common than gay marriage and, biologically, a man does not want to stay with one woman. You are so hung up on gay marriage so why not polygamy?

Mike is. He has no clue how the right really views gays. They don't have a problem if someone is gay, they have a problem with how a person acts. Like when the gay men choir (an ironic group that wants acceptance but only allow gay men in their choir) sang about converting children. People don't have them for being gay, they hate them for wanting to convert children.

Mike's viewpoint the right's views on gays is completely wrong. A big reason why Trump gained so much support in the primaries was that in 2012 republicans were talking about gay marriage in the debates and many politicians talk about gay issues as if there are any. Trump did not in 2016 as he knows that really no one cares about the non-existing gay issues except for those on the left.

@ToxicAudri ok, right away you say the "don't say gay bill". Nowhere in that bill is the word "gay" listed. It does not make saying "gay" illegal. You bring up fascism when you are the one misrepresenting a bill because of feelings. "where one can't talk about gender identity or sexuality" No, the law prevents the discussion of in it schools at a younger age and for great reason. Young kids should not be learning about that from inexperienced teachers at that young of an age. Kids have very malleable minds and will believe a lot but know very little about themselves. In fact, even today we know very little about kids. Just recently we begun to understand autism with kids but do not know how to fully handle them. And as for identifying themselves, life does not work that way. Can I identify myself as a retired veteran and receive money from the federal government? Also, to add on identifying yourself as a different gender. Here is an argument against that. If someone identifies themselves as fat and becomes anorexic, do we give them liposuction? No. "but there is with republican fascists" Which republicans are fascists, and how?

@Rainbow_Panda tolerant and fair of what? And how? And saying convert children is a reason why the new law in FL exists. They may say they are converting them to be tolerant and fair, but in reality they aren't. That is the issue. As one conservative commenter said in response to that song, after gay marriage was allowed that was it. Now members of the gay community are threatening to change people's kids.

@Rainbow_Panda so a group of gay people wrote a song about converting children because they are not pushing the gay agenda on children? The issue is that the vast majority do not care if you are gay. They are annoyed of the constant advertising of it. I worked at a restaurant during my undergrad years. We had two gay individuals who worked there and you would not know they were gay as they did not advertise it. Things were fine. We hired another one and had to fire them because they were making comments to the waitresses saying "I am more of a woman than you are" and other inappropriate comments. Also, as with race, children do not see gender identity, they see people. Ever seen the South Park episode about the flag where the kids ended up seeing 5 people? It is the same with gender identity. Kids see a person, not a gender identity. You advertising to kids about being gay and what that means changes that which we should not be doing. You are actually doing more harm.

@Rainbow_Panda it is similar to CRT. Kids are typically not born racist. Talking about it to malleable minds causes problems as it is teaching kids that whites are oppressive towards blacks and blacks have a difficult life because we have a racist system. With gender identity you have young minds who are malleable where kids get the wrong impression where they are not anti LGBTQ to begin with. So with the gay men choir song, what are you teaching them? Nothing. Instead you are pissing people off being annoying and creepy.

@Rainbow_Panda I know you are born gay. The song is an issue because it is what annoys so many people about the gay community. They are singing about converting children and coming for your children which is creepy. And the people who are being pissed off are not homophobes. I felt the song to be scary because adults talking about converting other peoples' kids is scary. No different than if some religious figure were to do the same thing. :"Your story about not caring if someone is gay means nothing to me. As a gay person I know exactly how gay people are treated. I am black so I can speak on my own experience with racism as well." And I bet you overexaggerate your experience. How many will know you are gay unless you advertise it? I bet no one. The annoying part is when gay people start prancing around advertising the fact they are gay. Here is the reality, people do not care if you are gay. People do not care if you are black. They do not judge you on either of those. They judge you based on how you are as a person. That is the fact. And if you happen to find the very rare person who does judge you based on being black and/or gay, then ignore them. And CRT is being taught to children, that is why it is a big deal. When schools were shut down parents got to see with remote learning what is being taught to their kids and it bothered them. That is why there is a push.

You feel you are treated a certain way because you are gay and/or black when the reality is that most likely you are treated a certain way because who you are as a person, your character. The society is not racist, they are not homophobic, and that includes the political right. A big problem I see with the political left is they hardly interact with society and, because what is displayed in the media, they get the ideas in their heads that society is racist and homophobic. But if you actually interact with those on the political right you would see they do not care about race and sexual orientation.

Most are ignorant on the issue. And if you let them live life they would most likely interact with gay people growing up and judge people based on character and not on sexual orientation. Same with race. But instead there is a push by the gay community to "inform" kids about the gay community. Why? Kids are not discriminating. Want to end discrimination on gays (that really doesn't exist to begin with), stop talking about it. "Who are you to tell me if my experiences are being exaggerated or not? Absolutely no one." No, I experience life and society. I know many gay people and they are fine and doing well. Even in very conservative parts of the nation they are doing fine. As I said, a problem with those on the left is that they hardly get out and interact with society. Thus they create a false reality. I do. And every gay person I met was treated based on their character, not on their sexual orientation. So either you are the rare case where you are treated differently based on your sexual orientation, or you are exaggerating it, or your character is someone people do not like. If you want to walk about with your boyfriend holding hands then fine, no one will care. It becomes annoying when you have to be vocal on it. Here is a great example, the gay men choir. There is irony there. They want tolerance and acceptance, but to join their choir you have to be a man and gay. No women and straights allowed. So much for acceptance and tolerance. And it is irritating. You can create a choir and make good music, now why advertise you are gay? Do you want a cookie? And yes, CRT is being taught in schools. Again, when teachers saw via remote learning what was being taught they pushed for laws to make changes. That is why the issue of CRT became an issue during covid.

@Rainbow_Panda dude, almost no parent is homophobic and racist. And even at that, those are the parents' kids. This is why the FL law exists. Parents do not want teachers indoctrinating kids. Your first line in your comment makes me feel you want to indoctrinate kids based on some false reality that the US is racist and homophobic, or one political party is. That is why people are against CRT and support the FL law. " We all have different experiences so you cannot just speak on mine." And as I said, I interact with many black individuals and gay individuals in really conservative areas and they are just fine. How is it that I interact with these individuals in conservative areas, many who are close friends to mine, and they don't seem to have problems of racism and homophobics? That is why I cannot believe your situation. To me those who are crying about racism and homophobics are really people who are simply bad characters. "And I couldn't care less if there is a choir just for gay men." You should, it is ironic how they want to be accepted and people to be tolerate but then create a group that only gay men can join. It is this, I can go to that choir as a man and ask to join. They will ask if I am gay. I will say no so they will say no. But if I were to tell them, as a gay person, they can't enter a certain business, or join a certain group, they will cry discrimination. The pendulum has swung that far to the other direction. "I don't believe that homophobia or racism will stop keep me from accomplishing the things I want to do" Then why care? If someone is an actual racist and/or homophobic, why care about them? Move on. Not everyone is going to like you for whatever reason. That's life. " it's just something I have to deal with. " And people do not like me for whatever reasons. That's life. I have actually been discriminated against being a white male. I don't pound my fist and cry about it, I just move on. I don't look to change laws to get people to "tolerate" and "accept" me, I move on. I understand life is full of challenges. That most people are not racists nor homophobic. In fact, where I saw the most discrimination was in graduate school where the university catered to the black community and LGBTQ community while dismissing others. As I said, the pendulum has swung the other way. And yes, CRT is being taught in schools. That is why it is a big deal. Again, and watch the bouncing ball here, parents saw via remote learning what was being taught to their kids, such as CRT, so they are pushing to stop it.

@Rainbow_Panda no, there are essentially zero people who are homophobic and racist. In fact, where it exist is mainly on the left, especially in racism. Ever heard of the "soft bigotry of low expectation"? I doubt you have. But that is how the left feels. They feel the same way about gays. They have low expectations for gays and certain races. "Can you really not understand that not all gay and black people have the same experiences? " Well, out of the many gay and black people I met they all seem to be doing fine. With one of my hobbies there are times I am an area where I am literally the minority. I can walk into a football stadium with 2000 people and I am one of, at most, 50 white people in the area. The rest are black. How do I act? No differently. You say you had negative experiences and I am saying chances are they are made up or over exaggerated.

@Rainbow_Panda BTW, I live in TX, and in a very diverse city of TX. Guess what, I see a lot of black individuals who are doing well. My manager is black, my landlords are black, I just don't see racism except from the political left with the soft bigotry of low expectations.

Actually, Kapernick is a great example of what Ted is talking about. You act a certain way in society people will not respect you. Also, in the end Kapernick was let go because he is not NFL QB material.

Cruz is correct.. In the real world people are not going to care about your feelings, even on the job. Colleges have been overtaken by liberals where liberals have all this freedom to say something, but if someone on the right says something that offends the left the left is allowed to go to a safe space and even silence the right.
