There were a couple of studies. There are problems. One study eliminated the first seven days of data. Next, they are only showing a few weeks of data when the entire school year needs to be done. If the entire year is done there will be a same transmission rate overall, just the mask ones will be over a longer timeframe. Another is mask mandates vs non mask mandates. Plenty are wearing masks in areas with no mandates. And in places with mandates kids do not wear them well. Also, issues like social distancing are not factor in. Point being, these studies have many flaws.

@vic5015 surgeons and nurses dispose of those masks. Many, including me, have been wearing the same mask for weeks. Also, surgeons and nurses are in a very control situation. And there is no data showing masks prevent the spread of covid.

In the 2018 to 2019 flu season, which was 8 months long, 477 kids died. Why didn't we enforce masks then? Essentially the same number of kids died but in a shorter timeframe? Seatbelts are a bad example. Seatbelts laws exist because of car insurance laws. Car insurance laws exist because we are allowing people to drive a big box of metal at high speeds. So there is a balance. You also do not have to drive. You can walk, get a ride or take public transportation. This is different compared to what is being pushed with the vaccine and masks. Many are saying you cannot interact with society at all without a vaccine and mask. With seatbelts you do not have to drive. You can still interact with society though.

Not true. If they did why do they not talk about natural immunity? There are several articles in Cell, Science, BMJ, Nature, etc. that talks about it and it being long term. Liberals just listen to bias media and go along without question. Even at that, if you read this actual study there were many limitations mentioned such as they did not account for vaccination rate or other covid protocols taken such as social distancing.

When I am agreeing with Bill Maher, who is fed up with how the left is acting, that says something. Maher feels the way he does because he has discussions with people that have opposing viewpoints. Most on the left don't.

On traffic laws and seat belts, there are alternatives. You can still interact with society even if you don't drive. What you are suggesting with masks is that you can't interact with society unless you wear a mask. Same with vaccine mandates. There is no alternative.

You can walk, bike, take public transportation, etc. There are alternatives where you can still interact with society. Driving your own car is a convenience that comes with responsibilities. Comparing this to masks is asinine. People are saying wear a mask or you cannot interact with society, no alternatives. You have to stay home. You can't go to a restaurant, a gym, a school, etc. That is the difference. If I did not have the ability to drive I can still interact with society. On PPE, jobs that require them have a direct safety concern with them. Such as me wearing goggles in the lab, it is to prevent splashing in my eyes which has happened to people handling chemicals. One day I had a base bath splatter on my arm. I was wearing a lab coat so it was fine. But that is a direct safety issue. A disease is not as diseases of all kinds exist. As for kids and vaccinations and schools, those vaccines have been around for decades and work. The covid one does not. In laws one, they require legislation. None of these mask and vaccine mandates were pass via legislation but by power hungry governors. Next, laws typically have a balance and reasoning. Kids wearing masks is unreasonable as kids are not in danger of the virus. More kids have died from the flu in a shorter time span in previous years. Stop fearmongering and live life.

In the 2018-2019 flu season, which was 8 months at most, 477 kids died. The flu was deadlier in that time and we never wore masks or shut down schools then. Also, 478 kids is around 0.0008% of all kids in the US. That is low. 477 kids compared to over 97,000 public schools is low. Most schools experienced no deaths with kids. As for kids being hospitalized, even the impending doom lady of the CDC said cases are not more severe thus, kids are not dying at a high rate. Again, you analogy is flawed. I can walk and interact with public, I don't have to drive and wear a seatbelt. You are saying either wear a mask or you can't interact with the public. Big difference. Covid is not that dangerous. I am living in a town now where no one is wearing masks. Zero deaths at school. "School’s which have a mask mandate have got less Covid cases." There is no evidence to support that. The vaccine does not work, it wears off quickly.

You are also teaching them that a mask is all you need as opposed to washing hands, cleaning surfaces, etc. Also, if parents want to not place their kids in danger, why send them to school to begin with? As for your restrictions, difference is I can still interact with society. What you are saying is if you do not wear a mask you can't interact with society. Same with many places with the vaccine mandates. Situations like spitting on someone, punching someone, standing naked on the street, etc. are direct actions. Wearing a mask to protect someone from a virus that might be in the area is not direct. If I punch someone I did a direct action. Wearing a mask when I do not even know if a virus is there is not direct. It is asinine. Also, these mask mandates are not laws. Laws require legislation, not some power hungry governor demanding something. That is the other problem. These mandates were not created via legislation. You talk about how society works, a law requires legislation, not some power hungry fool. "Why do anti-maskers pick THIS issue to fight over and not the other restrictions they live with every day?" Because it is all theatrics, masks do not work. Mask are a symbol at this point to remind us that us, as a society, will just obey without question. We did when told to shut down except for "essential businesses". We were told to stay home when many people pushing these restrictions violated them such as Newsom, Lightfoot, and even Biden. Biden signs a 100 day mask mandate and violates it that same evening. And when Psaki was asked about it she said there are more important things to worry about. With covid people were jerked around for months and are done. If you want to bow down to governors and wear a mask so be it. Others saw how BS covid is and are no longer listening.

You bring up masks and surgery, that is a very controlled setting where masks are used once, they are wearing gloves, they are not constantly touching their faces, etc. 478 kids in the US is 0.0008% of all kids. That is essentially zero. The flu killed as many. More kids die in shootings. Around 3 thousand kids die in traffic accidents a year. Also, last year we were in lockdowns and socially distancing.

You know, I don't have to completely agree with everything. But on science not proving anything, that was known for years prior to covid. Science does not prove anything, period. As for masks, there is nothing to show they work in the context of what we are doing. Many states with masks mandates still saw an increase in covid cases. Why? There are many factors involved. How many peer reviewed studies exist showing masks work in this context? None. Even this study cited in this video admitted flaws.

@OrlandoDibiskitt Berkeley can be wrong, but when it comes to science and proof, that the standard for science not proving anything has been the standard for decades long before covid existed. Also, many places like UC Berkeley only do mask mandates for liability and political reasons. I was just at UC Berkeley visiting. In their main library there is a sign outside of an elevator saying no more than 4 people. The elevator was 3'x6'. My friend and I were in there very close to each other. 4 people would have been shoulder to shoulder at least. I am serious. Don't believe me? Visit UC Berkeley's library and look for yourself. It was a joke, but it was there for pure liability.

Why no alternative to the vaccine in that case? Natural immunity is science, and science involves looking at many variables and routes. Even with the vaccine, Biden and Harris said they would not take it. They later said there should not be a vaccine mandate. Now there is a push by Biden to do just that. Why?

Also the Nature article entitled "SARS-CoV-2-specific T cell immunity in cases of COVID-19 and SARS, and uninfected controls" Natural immunity exists and a study from Israel suggests it is stronger than the vaccine. That does not mean not get vaccinated, but it should be discussed.

So the conclusion Mike is making that masks in school slow down the spread is not what the study is saying. The study also does not factor in other situations like social distancing. Do schools with a mask mandate also enforce more social distancing? Do they also enforce shut downs more as if one kid gets infected the entire class has to stay home? What Mike and others here are doing it looking at only one variable, masks, and drawing a strict conclusion. This has been the problem the entire time where people would focus on only one variable, the virus, and make a strong conclusion on how our society should function.

I just moved from a city with a mask mandate and now live in a place with zero mask mandate. It is great being here now not seeing masks and not seeing people living in fear.

And yes, we should have been washing hands prior to covid. We should have also keeping our distance to a degree, stay home if sick, etc. It should not have taking covid to get us to do that. @223Drone people die all the time. To you prior to covid no one died. Covid deaths are overstated. Evidence? Easy, 40% of covid deaths are nursing home patients. According to UCSF report from a few years ago 50% of new nursing home patients die in 6 months and the average lifespan of them is a year. The average covid death is over 80 years old. So yes, almost all who died of covid would have been dead in the same timeframe anyways.

This is not true. One, the study admits flaws such as no control. Next, schools that enforce masks are also doing more lockdowns. So if one kid is infected, all kids in connection stays home. Schools that are not enforcing masks are not locking down. Either way, kids are not threaten by this virus. So what is the big deal? Covid freaks are really pushing it when they talk about kids who essentially have a zero percent chance of experiencing any problems.

@JaredNoren in statistics it is essentially zero. More kids die from the flu in previous years and we never freaked out before. For acceptable amount of deaths, death happens all the time. We never shut down before. We take precautions, but we don't freak out. We can all lock up in rubber rooms and have a few "essential workers" deliver us our basic needs, now is that living life? Deaths from numerous situations like disease, accidents, murders, etc. will drop a lot. But is that living life? I say no. That is why so many have moved on with this virus issue. Rather live life than live in fear.

@whyispinkysoinsane7898 remote learning is difficult on kids who are low income or special needs. Those who do homeschooling are usually from rich families who have the resources to offer kids learning at home. Also, there is the psychological factor of kids interacting with other kids. As in one day while subbing a special needs student went out to recess. Due to a change in schedule that day her friends where not out there as their recess time changed. She cried as her friends were not there. Now take that student, and all like her and expand that issue for a year. I personally met students who grew depress when schools were shut down as they could not see their friends or do school activities. But hey, you clearly do not care about poor kids and special needs kids.

@whyispinkysoinsane7898 expanded how? Special needs kids need one on one work a lot of times. And poor kids lack resources. So expanded how? Knowing your history you will give no solutions. And interact personally is what I am concerned about. Many kids schools is the only way. And if these kids still interact outside of schools personally, why close schools? But how can they interact in other ways? How are my anecdotes imaginary? Many love seeing their friends in schools. But please, give me your solutions, you never provide any.

Stats (something leftists like you struggle with) In 19 months 478 kids died with covid. In 8 months of the 2018-2019 flu season, 477 kids died from the flu. We never freaked out them. Fact is most of the nation is back to normal in schools with zero problems. The damage of wearing masks and shutting down schools is far greater now.

@whyispinkysoinsane7898 special needs kids struggle with technology. I worked with a 5th grader who could not type in her login and password. Go to a special needs classroom, they have aids for a reason. Many kids need one on one help. This is where you need to get out more. Research special needs classroom. Take a course on it. Simply giving poor kids laptops does not work as again, a lot need one on one help. And many don't have parents to stay home. And interacting via internet? So screw personal interactions? And what about school activities like sports, band, assemblies, etc? Screw them?

@whyispinkysoinsane7898 a major part of education is interacting, personally, with people. Doing sports, doing band, holding assemblies and rallies. Working on group projects. Telling kids to stay home, work on a computer and never interacting with other kids personally is damaging. The CDC even admitted remote learning was damaging kids mental health.
