Because the US has a higher quality of product when it comes to higher education.

No, the truth is that demand went up thus prices went up.

Student loan forgiveness is stupid. It will inflate the economy and teach bad habits in younger people.
1
It is not stupid. The min. wage will mean higher prices overall thus that person making $11/hr is now earning less.
1
@samiamrg7 they are spending money to forgive the debt.
1
No, it is that Bernie just says the same handful of things over and over again so there is not point in arguing with him.
1
Maher actually listens to the other side where people like Bernie do not. The left has gone insane due to the fact that they refuse to listen to other side.
1
@Vinesus ok, who is pushing for murder?
1
To answer your question it is no. He feels it should be tuition free, but he has no actual plan. As Gov. Hickenlooper said, Bernie wants to throw a plan out there and have everyone else pick up the pieces.
1
Educated him how? Student loan forgiveness is a dumb idea. It will ruin the economy and teach bad habits in younger people.
1
It will not help the economy but instead lead to inflation.
1
It wont' stimulate the economy. Also, you can't compare college in the 60s to now. There was less demand in the 60s compared to now, thus the price was lower. Overtime universities started to add in fees was able to to it as it was not called a tuition.

Not true.

@salomaogomes7311 no it isn't.

@salomaogomes7311 from McDonalds website "Previous managerial experience, ideally within a restaurant, retail or hospitality environment. We’re looking for positive team players with flexible schedules who like to have fun, with the passion to work the famously fast paced McDonald’s environment. You must be 18 years or older to be a manager in our franchise owned and operated restaurants." From Burger King "Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but an individual with a high school diploma or equivalent and a proven, successful operations background will be considered"

@223Drone I literally showed the requirements to be a manager at fast food restaurants. No degree is required.
1
Ok, so you can't pay back your student loan, but you can pay off a home loan?
1
@ericjensen9091 there is a lot more to it than that. When Maher went to college less people were going thus there was less demand. Now a higher percent is going increasing demand thus raising prices.
1
@ericjensen9091 yes they did. Increase demand means higher prices. As for spending, the federal government has no constitutional authority to be spending on education.

People here are ignorant and do not understand the value of a college degree. The value is that it is an investment where you are showing employers you are willing to invest both time and money to improve yourself. People saying it is an education have no clue what an actual education is. Most in college you can learn on your own. You can read books or resources online. If you make college free or start forgiving loans companies won't value a degree as high and will favor those who went to trades schools or worked more in an actual job over those who went to a free college. Making college free would be no different than someone spending hours in the public library reading.
1
@terised you are not giving the full story. In that time the demand for college was low. Overtime it grew requiring more funds. So universities started to add fees to get money and was able to do it by not calling it a tuition.
1
It isn't about being miserable. It is that an argument in forgiving student loans is that people will be able to invest in a new home or a business (which is asinine in itself as what makes people think they can pay off those loans). Also, you can't' everything that you want. At times you have to make sacrifices. That is called being an adult.
1
@Vinesus you don't have a right to other people's goods and services. Also, the onus is on your to become educated. There are many intelligent and knowledgeable people who never went to college. The resources are out there, read up on your own. In fact, if after a K-12 education, if you can't learn on your own you are a lost cause and college will be a waste of time for you.
