@primal9238 I agree the training can be improved, but that is on the state and local level. I also agree having overweight cops is an issue, but obesity is an issue all around. Consider Dick Levine, and obese man who thinks they are a woman has a major influence in healthcare in our nation. Do you not see that as a problem?
A cop should not give legal advice beyond hiring a lawyer. That is not the cop's position. It is especially important as the cop does not know what the prosecuting attorney will do in that case. Cops understand the law to the level they need to know. If a warrant for an arrest is issued they do the arrest. If they suspect someone of DUI based on giving a test they are trained to give, they can arrest them. It isn't like they are going in completely blind.
Let us compare it to my job. I do apps as a scientist at my job. When it comes to sales I do not discuss price with a customer, the sales person does. I have a general idea on how much something cost. And I can gauge what a person's application works for them. But when it comes to discussing price, the I completely leave it to the sales person. Why? They could be having a special deal, a discount, credit, etc.
Same with law. A cop will know when to arrest someone. But beyond that they do not know the full law, what the prosecuting attorney will do, what the judge will do, etc. All they will say is get a lawyer.
