For a rare case, I agree with Mike on mental illnesses as it is difficult to take one. I do agree with Maher though on how millennials do not know what is going on in the world. To many millennials spend too much time on social media as opposed to actually interacting with society and seeing what is going on in the world.

@mileshill7196 the OP is correct, many are seeking medical help as opposed to finding healthy ways to deal with it and also realizing that in the end life is not going to be all great. You are going to face challenges and be hurt at times.

@ALittleLateLotusBlossom you don't think people that are Maher's age had to face challenges? They did. My dad, trying to raise myself and my two siblings with my mom, had little money. After everything was spent on his part he had a pocket full of change left over. I am now earning as much as he is per year at half the age. In a few years I will be earning more. And these days things are much easier with technology. You mentioned financially, with technology you can find better deals on goods and services, you can save money shopping online, and even time. Things are easier. I agree our government is messed up, but to say things are harder now than in the past is simply not true. I am a millennial and fact is we were spoiled growing up in the late 80s and 90s. And now the long term results are showing. Maher's generation had to deal with stagflation and the Cold War much like the younger generation is going through now. My millennials, like me, were spoiled, and it now shows.

There are arguments on both sides. I have a mental disorder with depression. I took medication temporarily as there is a chemical imbalance, but I stopped and found other methods to handle it. Working out, eating healthier, quitting drinking, etc. For some that will work, for others they will not. Mike, being fair, has a point in that mental disorders are difficult to understand as you can't measure it like a broken arm. However, Maher is correct in so many are claiming anxiety and the question is why? We are at a point of at first not handling mental disorders at all to the pendulum swinging the other way of over diagnosing.

Eh, fine line. To start, some do suffer through mental issues such as anxiety. Mental issues are difficult to handle as it is not like a broken arm you see, it is a chemical imbalance in one's brain that can't be monitor and everyone experiences it differently. These days we are more aware of it. However, the pendulum has swung to far the other way. Now we are over diagnosing people and medicating them when life style choices can help instead. I have depression, but working out, changing my diet, quitting drinking, etc. improved it and I stopped medication. So to a degree Maher is correct.
